well just got back out of the hospital last night after another 3 day stay! it is a long story, but the short version is they found a blood clot in my calf, and again my heart was going off! the best news i got was no clots made it to my lungs! and here i thought when i had my knee worked on 2 weeks ago i would be good to go! but maybe not! so now my doc appt`s have doubled! and i have 5 right during elk season! doc says if i am to hunt i should "road hunt" this year!! that sucks big time! i missed salmon season waiting for my knee surgery( i count on 2-300 pounds) and now i may miss all the fun!!
so now if i do miss hunting this year i will be looking foreward to all of your hunting stories! so make em good!!!
thanks for listening to me whine!! and sorry for the whining!! don`t normally like to do that!!

Tell the Doctor to KYA! Find someone who will haul your azz out there, carry your damn gun, and push you in a wheel chair, if they need to; and go kill something!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sheit, in your next life, you might be a damn anti-huntin' tree huggin' socialist!!!!! So, take advantage of it while you're still living this one!!!!!!!!!! Now, did that make you feel better?????????? |

crippledhunter,
Sorry to hear about the health problems messing with your hunt time. But so you know, I already had my elk hunt here in Arizona a few weeks ago. I drew the September archery hunt in unit 6A and since i have a bad arm, I get to hunt with a cross-bow. It was a very exciting hunt, on opening morning we called in 8 different bulls, some to within 5 yards even! Most of them were smaller bulls but there were a couple of really nice 6 X 6's. One of which was HUGE!! Sadly we didnt get a chance at a shot that morning. We saw bulls everyday, morning and evening, without a chance to shoot. I put up a little photo of that HUGE bull that I mentioned earlier. We hunted him hard everyday, but still with no shot. I did get him within 15 yds only to watch him turn and run away... one of a few times I ended up with one or two trees separating us.
The bulls were only checking cows to see if it was time to start rutting, but the cows had not come in to estrus yet. So the bulls would let them go. They would answer the bugle, but wouldn't come charging in to the calls. So as we closed ground they would wait to see what was following them, then step around a Juniper tree with only one eye and antler exposed, or look over the top of the little tree. In either case, they got a good look from their hiding spot and then whirl around and leave.
All together, I had the best hunt of my life even though I
never got a shot. I did how ever get to see my first wild Bobcat at about 10 yds, under some rocks we were glassing from. I didn't shoot him because we had a 6X5 at about 150 yds or so. He came as close as 35 yds then turn a went right back the same way he came from, never exposing his vitals inside 100 yards. We're guessing he smelled the bobcat.
But it was all a blast. Even getting caught after dark with our flash lights batteries dead!
That night I hurt my leg and it took us till about 10 pm to get back to camp. OMG!! I was beat after that night... Couldn't even hunt the next morning, but I was back after them that next evening.
I hope this help to make your season a little better.

Crippledhunter,
After having endured 5 knee surgeries with the last two total knee replacement I can relate to your situation, although I never had to recover from a blood clot. I do recall my Doc being very cautious about the possibilty of a clot occuring but in my case the physical therapy and drugs worked. It really sucks on the timing but hopefully you will have a miraclous recovery and be able to get out more than anticiapted. |

hey mitch, i was handicapped in 1998, since then i am up to 25 surgeries!! in the next 10 years i either couldn`t hunt or never saw anything! so i am getting used to it, but funny what you can get used to!! but as my favorite says goes" the good lord doesn`t say how much time you have or what shape you may be in, he just says enjoy each and every day like it was your last!!!" which is what i try to do each and every day! rti was searching for helpers just in case i need them this year and they seem to be scarce this year! my son started a new bussiness this year so his time is very limited! the other guy who has helped in the past got a new job! but i am still putting feelers out there just in case! it is starting to get cold, and i am seeing more doe`s! i am getting ansie now! |

Crippledhunter, Where do you live bud,? Is there anyway you could get to Central Missouri for the November hunt. It starts on 10 NOV. and ends on 20 Nov. Alternative Methods starts on 12/15/12., You can hunt with muzzleloader, Archery, Crossbow, Pistol,(blackpowder), Atlatls, and Air-powered guns, during this time. The gun season allows ANY centerfire (single projectile) rifle you choose. I hunt with my Granddaughter, but because of school, she will only be with me on the week-end. I retired in 2003, so I have time to help you, if we can figured out how to work the logistics.

Patrick, I'll bet you can find a doctor that hunts, or even a nurse or an assistant who has a family member that hunts. It' don't hurt to ask, my friend!!!!!!!!! |

patrick, We have State Conservation Land, as well as Federal Land, and some private land we hunt on. Because of the Bad weather,(drought) and the hermorrhage problem, some counties have lost deer, but according to our Agent it is not bad here. |

Patrick,
With your very positive attitude, especially after that many surgeries, I do not have one iota of doubt that something positive will happen for you. |
