I currently hunt whitetail with a muzzleloader and slug gun. I am going to start turkey hunting come the spring. I would like to infest in a shotgun I can use for turkey hunting and duck hunting, as that would be my next move after turkey. I would like some help choosing a quality shotgun I can use for both kinds of bird. Thanks to everyone who helps.

Mossberg pump. They'll work every time, even if you fall in the mud in the bottom of your duck slough. I've had one since sometimes in the late 80's, never had a problem with it. Dale |

Reminton has a new model that will serve both purposes very well and is priced good as well. Checkout their website for the particulars. If cost is a factor a company that in the past has not been widely accepted here is the TriStar who make a great semi auto that is a quality shotgun as their quality control has gotten much better than when they where first imported. They offer some of the cheapest guns around but their lower end ones will show low quality fitting and such but do shoot much better than they look and at an affordable pirce. If price is really not a factor then go with a new Benelli as they are really coming into their own finally with much more reasonably prices than before. |

Thanks for the replies. Big Dawg when you say the new Remington are you referring to the Versa Max. Also, dk what particular Mossberg pump were you talking about. Again guys, thanks for the input.

I used a BPS 12 ga for years on Turkey, Geese and Ducks....I have paddled with it (don't ask), pushed out of softer than I thought mud in LA up past breech and rinsed it out and hunted, underwater in brackish and fresh water and kept on shooting. It got so worn that a light dew would make it rust just walking around with it. SHILOH took care of that problem and I still use it on turkey and if going specifically for geese. Use a Beretta Extrema for ducks now. Love it but do have to clean it more often than REM 1100's I have had. Gud bud has a Versamax and loves it, nudder has Win SPX and the Dude I hunt with in AR has a 4 or 5 year old Benelli that he cleans once a year whether it needs it or not. Know nuttin bout new Davinci except it ain't cheap and they gave Phil Robertson a lot of money to use it! I guess what I am saying is buy a quality firearm .....spend as much as you can afford and with care, it will last, but some require more care than others! |

Mine's the basic wood and blue Model 500 cause that's about all that was available back then. I've got a slug barrel and a field barrel with screw in chokes. But they have a ton of models, pick what you like. They've been around and working trouble free for a long time. Plus I like the tang safety a lot more than a crossbolt.

My vote goes for the Mossy 500. I have one with 28 inch vent rib w/screw in chokes , plus an 18.5 inch cylinder bore, and a 20 inch rifled bbl with a red dot sight system . Wood stock and blued bbls. |

I too have a 12ga 500 mossy with slug barrel, cantilever mount with a Leupold 2x7 as well as a field barrel w/screw in chokes. I've had it in a lot of conditions and it's never let me down yet. Although I haven't paddled with it... ;-) I also put a Knoxx recoil reducing stock on it. Love that shotgun. |

A little side note: I had a mossy in camo . I sold it. I found out camo colored guns don't like me. At least in tall brown grass. It played hide and seek for about 10 minutes. |

I have a Mossberg 500 Tactical Turkey 12 ga, I use it for everything from turkey to deer to rabbits and squirrels. I would imagine with the right choke and shells it would be just as good for waterfowl. |

I use my Mossberg 935 for everything from deer to turkey, and in between. It will handle 2 3/4", 3", and 3 1/2" shells, with no problem and no more recoil than a standard 3", plus it has a back bored barrel, and comes with all of the basic choke tubes, sling, and swivels, and is available in black (like mine) or Adantage, as well as (I believe) Mossy Oak and wetland patterns. It's usually priced less than any of the other major name brand semi-autos, and if you prefer a pump action, then the 835 is the pump version. BTW, mine has taken more than one swim in the muddy swamps down here, and with only a quick minor wipe down, it's continued to function without a single hiccup. |

I gotta chime in for my 870's since no one else has, unless Dawg was referring to the 870 Supermag Camo Turkey/Waterfowl. For a combo gun for ducks and turkey I would go with a 870 SM with a 26" bbl. I have one of those 870 SM camo turkey/waterfowl NIB I'd sell if interested. |

Find your self a good used 1300 Winchester pump action . They are a little on the heavy side , but that helps tame the recoil of shooting heavy magnum loads . NEVER had one that gave me any trouble , can't say that about the Rem. 870's . |

Yep ! g-faber has it right as the shotgun he is referring to is one that is exactly what you asked for. Best buy it from him if you want a dependable and durable shotgun. |

If a pump is what you like, Greg's 870 could be just the ticket for you! |
