Well, I don't live in Texas (Wisconsin actually...far from it), but I can tell you that you do need to put an effort forth as far as pre-season scouting goes. It's important that you know where the birds want to be, and then be there if possible. I would say to ask other people as well, but I don't know if that will work. I know it doesn't here in Wisconsin. If you're on to birds, you don't share where they are with others. Selfish? Absolutely. If you tell them, though, those same guys will be sitting 50 yards from you the time you're out. It's a duck eat duck hunting season...too many guys that think they own the lake up here. Good luck.
Every sunrise I take in over a marsh or in a forest, I thank God for all he has given us.

Last two years, many birds stayed in mid west....warm, plenty of food and open water....why burn all that energy to fly South???

Two years ago was worst we ever had in 20 years in SE LA (Venice area) but it was pretty darn good last year, SE MO was poor two years ago and awful last year, ARK within 20 miles of Stuttgart has been hit and miss for the last two years even getting skunked some. You are not alone......just gotta be there when ducks are!

Well i scouted some this weekend around lake tawakoni north east texas. And guess what all i seen were groups of cormorants(aka water turkeys if you live in texas) and danged ol coots i seen just a few big ducks (mallards, teal, and woodys) but nuthin worth the time, money, and effort to put a hunt together. If anybody has seen any ducks in this area please say so you dont have to say where just let me know im not searchin in vain

Same for Illinois. I hunt around mid part of the State west side Madison, Jersey and Pike counties along the Mississippi and Illinois rivers. Ducks and Geese just are not flying like they should be this time of the year and I hear numbers are good in reserves but no one I have talked to are shooting or seeing many birds. Obviously this warming trend has held them up north.
i belong to the Alton Woodriver Sportsman Club in Godfrey, Il and we have 16 blinds to hunt on along the river and on flooded property. Opening day was the best with all the woodies (78) but still we haven't had a good year. Total club count since opening day is arounbd 190- 200 ducks, this is the worst year I have ever seen.

Migration peaked in South Dakota 10-15 days ago and then the cold spell hit and pushed them through fast. seeing very few ducks and honkers now. snow geese are steadily moving through. They are on the way down to you guys in the southern part. Best of luck to you guys!

We have several Rick's in the club but I don't know a Rick Nelson. He could still be a member just haven't had the opportunity to meet him. We have over 600 members but many don't hunt on the clubs grounds, and hunt elsewhere.

Well this week hasen't produced any good duck hunting at all. There were 2 mallards killed on the club property in Illinois this past week, Calhoun point was just as bad and all along the Illinois and Mississippi river bottoms from Alton, Il north to Clarksville, MO hunting locations haven't produced like past years have. Where are the birds?

Finally the ducks have arrived. Guess they needed the snow and cold front up north to drive them here.
