Take her back to the yard check cord her and real her in when commanded show her what you want when she gets it and starts minding go to a new yard not a open field take baby steps sounds like she has been running before she had her obedience done last place you should be using the ecollar is out hunting if she hasnt had baby steps and been conditioned to the ecollar in the yard.. go online and watch George Hickox condion one to the hear command get back to the yard training then step up then to a small field graduate to the big field.. |

X2. You need to teach her basic obedience in the yard. Once you know she understands what you are asking her to do, only then can you re-enforce that command with an ecollar. Using an ecollar doesn't guarantee a dog is going to do what you ask of it. The dog has to understand the command first. Conditioning them to an ecollar is another procedure, they have to learn that doing what they are being told to do is the only way to turn the pressure off. If she hasn't been properly collar conditioned, you may have actually made her run away from you by using it. |

Never ever use an e-collar to teach....it is reinforcement of what you shud have already taught the dog! Dogs tolerence for e-collar vary signifacantly----Ol Abe has never needed anything above a three even when in a blind and not wanting to share retrieves with another male... |

I use a Choke Chain. Your local sporting good dealer will show you how to put it on your dog. After you have it around the dogs neck, attach your leash to it. Step away from the dog and slightly tug on the leash in quick burst. Do not pull the dog to you! Give the dog a HERE command as you are tugging on the leash. do this until they come to you, then award them. Repeat a few more times. They normally catch on fairly quick. The choke chain should tighten up around the neck when you tug on it. And it will release when you let pressure off. Only work on this about 10 to 15 min a day. They should respond to your commands without the leash in a few days. Teaching a dog basic obedience is very important, if you plan on hunting with it. Good Luck! |

Tom their is 5 weeks left before the season starts, and I'm hoping we get a flood between now and then. Our pit sits in a levy between an 8 acre lake and a field full of standing corn. If we don't get any rain, we will just have the lake to hunt over. It's easy to get divers to work the lake. But alot more challenging to get the mallards in their because they can tell that their is nothing to feed on. The Tennessee/Kentucky River ought to be a hot spot. It has a ton of grasses growing all in the river this year that the ducks love. It has been low all summer, and the coves are shallow and full of food. |
