It came around quick this year,a little too warm for me yet. The weather man says we should start to see a little more cooler weather by next week. I have 2 weeks off in October, going up to the western part of the U.P. for a little Grouse and bow hunting this year. Can't wait !

It sounds like you guys had a great time. What county do you hunt in? From the reports that I have read, even though the Grouse cycle is on the downward trend, we had a good hatch along with optimal weather this spring. So Grouse numbers should be about the same as last year. We had a great year last year averaging around 3.5 flushes per hour in the U.P. where we hunt. (Not bad for two old guys with no dog. But I am thinking about getting a dog next year. My hunting buddy is going to be 75 this year and starting to slow down a little, although I am 53 and he says the same thing about me!) Also I read that Michigan was the number “1” state for Woodcock harvest last year followed by Minnesota.

I have never bird hunted in that county, I've hunted Allegan, Lake, Kalkaska, and Missaukee, but mostly bird hunt in the western U.P.
