                                                           I got da itch
                                                           To catch some fish...
                                                           Hi-ho, Hi-ho

Not trying to rub it in guys but I booked a fly-in DIY moose hunt many months before I drew the goat tag.  What's a Yooper to do when Nyyrikki smiles upon you?  Before dawn tomorrow I hope to have cleared customs and be heading north for seven days of  moose hunting and walleye fishing.

It's great to be semi-retired!

We better get enough to eat or else we will go hungry.  We are planning on two meals of fish.  If they have lock jaw the pike should be cooperative.

Don't need to post any pics, if that tells you how the hunt went for me.  Seems like most of the other camps shot a moose or two and those that did not saw bulls and missed opportunities.  Guess we were just on the wrong lake at the wrong time.

Had a good time in spite of being mooseless.  Caught 18' to 23" walleye until my arms were sore.  Picked up several nice pike too but nothing over 29".

A note of caution if anybody is considering heading to Ontario for a hunt:  Be on your guard!  The four guys from a lake several miles from us who flew out on our bush plane told us two MNR Officers flew in opening morning and didn't leave until they had issued them five tickets.  The two guys who were actually hunting had left their licenses in camp and got tickets for not having them on their person, even though the officers went back to camp and saw the tags.  A third guy was sitting in a blind with a hunter and when they saw the MNR plane land they headed for camp and one of the officers saw him holding a rifle while his hunting buddy got in the boat.  That made him a hunter and was ticked for hunting without a license.  The last two tickets were pretty straight up for boat safety violations, something about life vests I believe.

I was not on the wrong lake at the wrong time.  I was in the right lake at the wrong time.  Got an e-mail from the outfitter today saying the 68 year old lady that flew in with her husband the day after we left bagged a bull right across the lake from the camp on the first full day of their hunt.
