Thanks for the input MD and Rt. MD, I checked the regs before deer season and as I stated, WI changed that law/rule when we passed the CC law. The regs are pretty much the same as you stated in MN, but we can go as low as a .22 cal. We must have a CC license, and we must be over 18. Barrels have to be a Minimum of 5.5 inches too.

SJ,

It was the barrel length.  A standard 1911 has a 5" barrel.

MD, you are making perfect sense, but our regs state that the measurement for the barrel is measured "from the firing pin to the muzzle with the action closed". Granted, as you stated, the barrel is 5", the state includes the space for the action. Mine measures 7" from muzzle to firing pin. And in lieu of your good insight, I am gonna call the DNR and verify just to make sure that all is compliant. These rules and regs can be, and are quite tricky so I will follow up (with the Wis DNR) just to keep my keester out of a sling. Thanks.

I have a muzzle brake on my 1911, wonder if that counts?   Here in NY (upstate) you just need a basic pistol permit to hunt.  I have a CC but still cannot carry during archery season. I would just like a tad more protection while walking in early.

Question...The end of the barrel to the front or back of the firing pin?

GL; I can only assume (And we know what that means, but what the hey.) that the muzzle brake would not count as it is an add-on and not an original part of the pistol "As Manufactured". But then, again, the DNR reads their rules the way THEY want, and you might want to ask them.  And to further my "Assumption", I would think that the firing pin question would be measured at the FRONT (Cartridge end) end of the firing pin. Just my personal take on things here.
