Hey Gang,

It's that time of year again to give you a heads up on next year's GT dates.
It'll be held on June 20th - 23rd (Thursday to Sunday).

Hopefully the stars won't align wrong like they did last year, where most everyone couldn't make it.
Let's make up for it and have a great GT next year.  We hope to see you all there.

Steve

I believe I can make this one. The Walleye fishing should be great at Potholes that week. Count me in!

Sounds great, guys!  We always look forward to meeting new people.
We always have a great time in camp, and always encourage bringing family and friends.

Kurt, I'll add you to the email list since I already have your address.  JMTaylor, please let me know if you'd like to receive the email updates also (they're the same updates posted here, just delivered via email).  If so, please email me at elkaholic@centurytel.net.

Hey, that reminds me.  I haven't sent this one out to the update recipients yet...

I hope to meet you all in June.

Hope to see you all next year! Due to circumstances I could not make this years GT. I have been to a few in the past and they are very enjoyable. Happy hunting and shoot straight..

Sounds great, Scott.  We all hope to see you guys there.

We should be putting the first update out around the end of March.  Those are always a good way of reminding people that want to come what the dates are and to make their necessary arrangements.

Last two GT's I went to, I was designated camp and booze guard. Is that position open?

Sure ya' ol' fox, we'll give ya' the keys to the hen house.  You're welcome in our camp any time, Tom.

Lady Di was saying yesterday that she might make it this year.  I'm sure she'd be glad to contribute a few cases of your favorite "adult beverage" to help us cut our losses and get ya' there.

I know you said the details will be out around the end of March, but are the dates looking to be the same as what was posted last year? It's looking like my son's troop won't be having any campouts that weekend so we would be able to make it.

Hey Lyle,

Yes, the dates of the GT are the same (June 20th-23rd).  It'll be great if you can make it.
If we were ever to change those dates, we'd create a new thread and edit the existing one with that info, as well as send out the new dates to those who are on the update email list.

We've never had to change the dates, but we did have to change to a new location in 2011 two weeks before the GT.  Our normal area got flooded, but thanks to "luvtohunt" we found a nice alternate spot and had a great GT.

Between the end of March and the GT, we email and post here three or four periodical "updates" with info on the upcoming GT (the last update is usually directions to camp).  These not only give people who haven't attended before some info on what they're about, but are a good reminder to everyone to start making their preparations.  Preparations like checking their gear, arranging any time off they might need, mentioning it to family and friends they might want to bring, etc.
For those of us who have been attending over the years, it's more of a reminder that it's coming up than anything.

You can find last year's updates scattered on page two of this (the Washington) forum if you want to see what they're like.  Once I "unpin" them from the top like this thread is (after that year's GT), they drop down in chronological order like the rest of the threads.
We have a rather large email list we send them out to, mostly consisting of past & present attendees or any members who might be interested.  If you'd like to be on the update email list, please contact me at elkaholic@centurytel.net

Five of us who met right here in the WA forum got together in the fall of 2004 to plan our first GT, which we held in May of 2005.  One has since passed away (Bullrun), one has moved to WY and still attends every other year or so but is still active in the planning (H2O Elkaholic), and the rest of us are still active in attending and planning.

We still have a good sized group of regulars at the GTs, most of which frequented this board in past years.  Things got out of hand on these forums a few years ago because the club wasn't policing them, and a lot of us lost interest here.  Not just here in the WA forum, but on this entire board.  Therefore, there has been a lot of turnover since.

We're all still NAHC members though, and we always enjoy meeting new friends (many of which beome regulars).
Last year was the first one we've skipped since we started.  All of the "planners" had major, high priority things come up that prevented us from putting it on.  Things happen occasionally that prevents someone from attending here and there, but the strange thing about last year was that it happened to all of us at the same time.

Anyway, we have a great time at the GTs.  Saturday is always the highlight, where we shoot most of the day and have our potluck in the evening.  You'll get that info and more in the updates.
We all hope you guys and your families will be coming, and we look forward to meeting you.

Steve

I'll be able to make it this year. Probably only Saturday and Sunday, but it should be fun. It will be great to finally meet some of the members here.

That sounds great, and yes we have a really good time.  We hope to see you and the others there.
As I stated before, Saturday is our most active day.  We'll list a tentative itinerary in the updates, so you'll have an idea what we'll be doing.

About a month before the GT, I'll start a separate thread with a spreadsheet listing who all is coming and when they plan to arrive.  This helps us with our planning, and gives everyone an idea who'll be coming.

There will be a lot of names you won't recognize, as they're members who don't frequent these forums any longer.  We even have a member or two stop by that have never registered on these forums.

Soooo... just who are you calling old there, Steve?

And the duck sounds great, Kurt.  That'll fit in perfectly for our Saturday evening potluck.
Oh wait, new recipe?  So we get to be the guinea pigs, eh?

So, if I come, I can bring sky carp and shovler and no one will know difference?
