A co-worker's father-in-law is too old to shoot and had bougt guns and babied them for years as an investment.  The co-worker came to me with the guns to evaluate and help her sell for him.  He wanted back what he paid for them.  I just can't rob him so i sat down to see what he has and value them - after all they were his investment.  First one, a mid 1970s 4" blued Python literally almost new in the box.  He expected about $300.  I admit to being ever so briefly tempted to fork it over on the spot, but no, my co-worker trusted me to help so I started the Blue Book and searching the gun sites to find that they sell for $2,000 in that condition.  He has about 20 guns, most everything is good quality, so I may get something, but that Python is sa-weet!  Wish I had $2k just laying around.

Shi if you would send me a list of the ones for sale as I might be interested in one or two or three etc etc etc of them. Yeah I got sticker shock too a few years ago when a female on here was selling a 6" barreled Python in .357 and when I checked the value for her/me I was shocked to see that at that time they were listed as selling for around $1600 depending on condition. I feel those revolvers are some of the finest ever made by that company.

He has a s/s Mustang as well I know that the co-worker was looking at herself.  I showed the they are selling for the $600+ mark these days but she could probably offer him a couple hundred cash and get that one since he'd get his money back from it and it really isn't that special.

When in gunsmithing school the head instructor was known to be "Mr. Colt."  I'll never forget the way he started the 3-day class we had on the Colt double actions:
"And now we come to God's gun.  If God has a handgun - and we know that He does - it is a Colt Python."

I have never owned a Python but have shot several and sold many more over the years.  When tuned just right that is the finest firearm ever created.  They are delicate so I'd never want one as a duty weapon, but for plinking or hunting or just plain staring at they are sweet.  Give me the Troopers, or a good S&W or Ruger for duty but when it comes down to owning the sportscar of revolvers it has to be the Python.

Thankfully, in my experience, MOST sportpeople are good, down to earth, trustworthy folks. Are there exceptions? Sure as with anything, but for the most part, good folks.

Good man Shi.

Just saw and evaluated the first 4:
1) Colt Python, blued, 4" barrel with COlt wood grips in nearly new condition. There is almost no cylinder-stop drag line on the bluing and only a tiny mark on the bottom of the grip where it got mumped. It is not as smooth as most Pythons and appears to be an early 1990s purchase based on that. Value about $1,000-$1,100
2) Colt Gov't IV Series 80 .380 ACP polished S/S with Colt white plastic grips and 1 magazine in good condition. Value about $800
3) Ruger Single-Six 3-screw 6" barrel, blued with magnum cylinder in good condition. Value about $350-$400
4) S&W Mod. 17-3 Combat Masterpiece .22 LR, blued with 6" barrel and square-but S&W wood grips and original narrow wood grips in its original box in good condition. Has receipt where he bought it in 1971 for $125. Value about $700.

All are in older style leather holsters except the .380 which is in an Uncle Mikes black nylong holster.
