I was watching a waterfowl hunting show that the hunters were using eotech scopes on their shotguns.  Has anyone done this?  If so what scope did you use and how did you like it?

I don't like the use of scopes on shotguns. I believe they limit your field of view. (food for thought. Those guys on T.V. Get payed to sell the equipment they use, so they do there best to make it look good). You can't scan the sky if you looking through a hole.

I am just curious if real hunters have used them with success. Not even sure how it would work. Finding the duck in the sights would be difficult.

The EOtech is a holographic site that allows both eyes to be open. There is no magnification. It does not operate like a traditional scope that restricts the view to the portion inside the scope tube - instead you should see a dot that appears to be projected down range (the dot is really projected on the lens of the devise). I hunted with a guy who had one on his goose gun he said it didn't eliminate misses, but brought him up to a par with the best shooters in his group. I think the big plus is, if you get an bad /off-centered gun mount the dot still points where the shot is going; thereby forgiving a common cause of misses in the field.
Be sure and post your experience with it if you get one.

Thanks that helps a lot. Still trying to get over the price. I was thinking about buying it for my son to use. If I do I will post the results.

Thank you all for the constructive feedback on this topic. I had never heard of it either until I saw a shop called flyway highway. I was curious if they actually worked and if anyone has every used on. My son is very proud when he shoots a duck and he does not cry when he misses. He saw the show also and asked me about it. I had no answer so I turned to the forum. I am always interested in the newest inovations in duck hunting. Things change over time. There is not many of us any more hunting over decoys that we carved ourselves. Again thanks to all of the constructive feedback.

Just so happens a member here got one and put a review on the Equipment forum today. Personally, I'd stick with traditional aiming and practice, but that's just personal preference.

Because of my old eyes, I got a scope on two handguns, three ML's and more rifles than I can count....I still just let my brain and pointing kick in with a shotgun...

I just practiced shooting clay targets with both eyes open. After awile, it just becomes muscle memory. You will be able to just point and shoot without even thinking about it. Practice more on targets flying from the left or right at 30 to 40 yds. That way your lead will become more natural as well. You will become a pretty good shot in no time.
