It's been quite awhile since i have done any hunting in any form. I have decided to start again and duck hunting is where i want to start. I have sold all my guns and i have to start all over again. I know i want a semi-auto but there are so many ouut there. Im on a budget so im looking for the best bang for my buck. I've done a dry fit and found two guns that seem to fit best. The first gun i have found is the Cz912 and the second is a Beretta 3901. In general which do you think would make a better duck gun? CZ 599.99 Beretta 799.99. Thanks for any input that you may have.

Before you buy a shotgun take a look at the new mossbergs. I have a 930. Is a great gun.

I know you said you want an auto loader but... Not sure where you plan to hunt ducks but here in Maryland (except last year the weather was way to warm) come January we have a lot of cold ice making weather. I hunt on the rivers and tributaries that go into the Chesapeake Bay and spray on the gun tends to form ice. Friends of mine that hunt with auto loaders tend to leave them home for thier pump guns when it gets nasty cold and we are hunting divers and dippers. Especially if money is an issue, I would highly recommend a Benelli Nova pump (guess that is redundant). I have several shotguns (have to admit no auto loader just pumps, side by sides and over unders) and for nasty weather the Benneli has been great. I agree with mrossotto too, the mossbergs are also hard to beat.

just a thought.

Small lakes and fields are where i will be hunting. Never thought about Moss's, so maybe I'll take a look at them. I seen the Nova's but they just didn't seem to fit as well. Will 3inch shells work for geese as well or do I need to look for something that shoots 3 1/2" shells as well? I hate asking a lot of questions but it's all new to me. Thanks all._

The 930 moss is a 3" it works well for just about every thing from upland to geese and I've shot a few turkeys with it. 31/2 are good for reaching out there but they have a kick to go with it.

Mossberg makes a great gun at a very reasonable price. I personally love my Super-Vincci. It's on the high end of the price spectrum, but I have no regrets in my purchase. 3" shells will work just as well as 3-1/2". You can even reach out there fairly far just by getting heavier shot. I like Hevi-Metal. It combines Hive-shot with your standard steel for a better price point. They also come in the box of 25 instead of 10. I've dropped a lot of birds at ranges guys shake their heads at, and wouldn't even consider it with their 3-1/2's. Another quick tip in buying your gun. Arkansas doesn't have a sales tax. I saved about $300 buying it from a dealer in Arkansas and paying the application fee of $25 here in CA for the transfer.

I prefer the Remington 870. I hunt similar locations as you. I recommend whatever gun you buy; get a kicks high flyer choke tube intermediate range. As far as 3 1/2 vs 3". I have killed a great deal of geese with 2 3/4 and 3. I find that the added cost for the 3" shells just is not worth it. I do not shoot heavy shot or any of the expensive metals. I use Kent #1, or 2. I will use BBB if necessary. If you are patient and call them in close you will kill anything.

Well i checked out the 930, mot a bad little gun. What do you think about the Urika 2? I also found a Benellie M2 American as well, it's a little above my limit of 800.00 (949.99) but it has me thinking. Any thoughts on these two?

Ok the gun hunt is over and im gonna have to wait awhile longer for the gun. I was trying to trade in my handguns for one today but the gun shops wanted to rob me on what they would give me for them. 550.00 for a 1200.00 Kimber thats not going to happen. Theres always next year, time to start saving OT. Thanks all.

In the for what it is worth category, I only use 3 1/2" shells when gun is set up for Turkey hunting. Geese fall out of the sky with 3 inch shells just fine. Trust you will find something you like next year.

get yourself a Browning, Benelli, or Beretta.

Browing Silver, Gold, Maxus are all great guns.

SBE1 and SBE2

Xtrema's.

Don't sell youself short on an auto.

If I got an 870 I'd go for a Wingmaster.  Just saw one sell for $300, that was a steal.

I prefer the Mossberg ultramag. I really like the versatility. I shoot all three sizes of shells. First load is 2 3/4, second is 3 inch, and the 3 1/2 for the final shot when birds will be distant. It has been my experience that a pump is more reliable than an auto. Also, can't beat the price. I bought my first one years ago when they first came out and have purchased two since (one for my now ex wife and one for my brother). They are also a fine goose and turkey gun.

You may also want to look at a Beretta A 300. Its built in the USA and is a modeled after the A400 but at a lower price point.

Well after looking, holding, researching and tons of questions I ended up with the CZ 912. It's in layaway and i should have it out in the next month or two. I figured instead of trying to rush everything this year I will take my time and get everything I need for next year over the winter. Thanks for all the input, ya'll have been a good source of info. Now i'm off to decide on a deer gun and maybe trade in my Kimber on it. First it was ducks, now it's deer, man my wife is gonna shoot me.
