I was thinking of the possibility of converting a climbing tree stand (summit viper ss) to a hang-on stand.  I would use straps to firmly secure the seat half and the platform half to the tree and put in screw in steps under the cables to keep them from slipping.  That should keep the stand in the air, then put up a stick ladder to get up there.  What do you guys think?  Is this do-able?

Sell the Summit Viper and buy a hang-on and climbing sticks.

That's a good climber and you should have no trouble selling it.

Never use any treestand in a manner other than intended. It just takes one accident -- not worth it.

I thought about that but the seat in the climber is soooooooooo comfortable.

For $80 buck you can buy a ladder stand and you can have both on the same tree. Step from the ladder stand into your comfy seat and even let someone seat on the ladder stand.

Since you don't care about leaving it out there just lock it to the tree at the ground . Only takes a minute or so to get up there .

That's what I'm talking about, and safer to climb up a tree. Around here the ladder stands are chained with a turnbuckle at the plataform, and then locked there too. Don't forget a large heavy duty garbage bag to cover your nice chair(keep it dry).
