We drew leftover cow tags in CO. GMU's 11 & 211.  It looks like there is a lot of private property in those areas, and limited access to public land.
Does anyone, who has hunted these GMU's, know a good area to put up camp and hunt?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Which season are you coming up?? Tough area especially early in the year. It tends to get hit pretty hard. I have hunted and camped in Axial Basin a bit but never had much luck. If we get a good winter, with some early snow, that will help you tremendously. Axial Basin is a good camping spot either way.

nplanansky,
Thank you for your reply. We drew second season (10-20 through 10-28). We are hoping for snow and get them moving some.
We are staying in Craig the night of the 16th and heading into GMU 11 on the 17th. can you give me a general idea where Axial Basin is located? I looked at my map and see loads of private property.
Wouldn't want to upset a property owner.

Thanks again,
Gary

Sorry....Been away from the computer for awhile. Missed a cow at 45 yrds archery hunting and then got onto a 300" and a 330" bull mid season. Stupidly....like yrs past.....passed on many cows trying to kill a good bull to no avail. Then my 12 yr old son missed his first antelope. 220 yrds at a buck in a hell of a crosswind.......needless to say buck fever def. took over. Have you been here and done any scouting yet. No weather yet but maybe later in the week. I think you are in for a tough hunt but not impossible. good luck. message me and I will give you my phone # if you have any questions while you are here. Would love to see pics of the hunt and hear the story!! The plus side is that you should see plenty of wildlife....mostly on private......but there are some resident herds on the public also. Good luck.
