I hunted off of Seedhouse Rd. northeast of Clark. I hunted the first week of the season last yr. I had a four wheel drive vehicle but I never took it out of two wheel drive. It was pretty dry, only had rain one day. All the roads to the trailheads were in good shape other than they were a little rough in areas due to the washboarding. Good luck to you. I'll be hunting gmu's 41,42,421 this yr., do you know anything about them?

I don't think I have ever headed to the high country to hunt elk without taking chains. They're one of those items that you may not need very often but when yu need them, you need them very badly. So, I'd take them along. Back in 1985 or so I was hunting elk in the early season southwest of Silt. A bad blizzard blew in and when it quite snowing we had over 3 feet of the stuff on the ground. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

Food for thought.

Have to agree with Flags. Chains are a must up there. Had to chain up every vehicle in camp a few years ago. Weather turns real quick.

I will third that motion. I always go prepared for the worst and hope for the best. I know so far it has been a dry year but that can change at any time. I hunt just on the other side of the divide from were you will be and I'll have mine. We are way overdue for a strong early snow storm up there. Not to mention that even a good rain will make the roads sloppy enough to make two wheel drive travel difficult to say the least.
Hunt hard, hunt lucky and live life Huge!

Definitely take them. I hunt that area quite often as it is just a few minutes from home. I have never NEEDED chains but there have been several iffy situations. I agree with everyone else......prolly wont need them but if you do......You will wish you had taken them.
