I have a female registered labrador and she got knocked up by a mastiff. I had not intended this but the mastiffs owners let him roam at will. To call this a small town would be an exaggeration and most people let their dogs go. I had her tied up but romeo found her anyway.
Going to be interested in seeing the pups. I may keep one and see if it can be trained to retrieve. This would be a mastador?
Anyone else have this unusual crossbreed? |

Jlowe has Rott-n- weenies, could be a lab-stiff, sounds medical. Where you at Nomad, sounds like a good cross.

Yep, our dogs have had two litters of rott-n-weeners, (mom is papered Rottweiler dad is papered dachshund) we kept one from the last litter and it is turning out to be a great pup, she seems to have an even split of both parents temperaments and structure, and I agree it sounds like yours could be a good cross, my only concern would be from 6 to 18 months, if they act like a lab pup with the mass of a mastiff. I can see it now. Yay, you're home, I missed you, (flying leap) catch me. lol Both have the potential to make great dogs so, in theory that doubles your chances. May even end up with some laid back, casual, retrievers. Most folks have to wait till their pup gets old before they mellow. |

My home is in a tiny little town, Timken (pop 77), in west Kansas. Surrounded by great hunting. I could use another good dog or two. Lots of WIHA nearby but mostly it is CRP and consists of more acreage than one person and one dog can hunt.
I was thinking of a greyhound/mastiff cross to run coyotes from horseback. The mastiff is available (he is an equal opprotunity impregnator). I need to find someone with a female greyhound. |

Yes both great dispositions and great with kids, very loyal dogs. Could have yourself some giant lap dogs. Would get her checked by vet to make sure pups aren't to big for her to birth. |

Nomad check around some dog tracks the gray hounds they race for only about 2 years or so then a lot are available for adoption, and if you get one from a track you know she can run. |

For sure. There are also grayhound adoption services for thase that are retired. There used to be a dog track outside of Wichita but that is now closed. I have no idea where the closest one is located. I think Arizona. |

I actually bought a Lab/Mastiff/Shepard mix and he's 8 months old now. He's at 74 lbs and growing, jet black and solid. He got most of the Lab characteristics and has a high play drive. Got very lucky to have the short hair and great personality. Boxey head and jaw like the Mastiff, and definitely gives him a unique look. I'll post a pic if I can figure out how. Best thing about the mix-breed is no real worry about the hereditary problems.

Best thing about the mix-breed is no real worry about the hereditary problems.
Not entirely true, you'll need to be concerned about hip dysplasia. All dogs, especially large dogs have this problem. |

Sounds like you're going to a litter of Massiflab (get it?) I have a fullblood English Chocolate that weighs 120lbs and friends ask if he's part Mastiff ,excellent retriever and very easy to train, too friendly with people ,I'm always afraid he'll wander off and get stolen . |

Shame he ain't a she or Ol Abe is a he and not a she----we could have caring , loving, housebroke, non-furniture climbing on, non-chewing on anything, sleep outside where dogs belong, eat once a day, waterfowl retrieving machines.....that hunt marshes, thigh deep mud, green timber, dry fields, flooded fields, lakes and rivers....ride on a 4 wheeler, boat, airboat, Argo or just run to blind in front of you cause they know where they are....also like to color with LilBit....hate thunder, firecrackers and rain....and sleep under table behind you while playing on this BB
