i have recently been welcomed to a new farm with lots of yotes and would like to take a few. what would be the best calls out there to get and how would i use them to bring them in close enough for a muzzle loader or shotgun since the lower part of Michigan does not allow rifles? |

I've got dozens of calls all work. Turkey calls work. You need a howler for locating them or you could just sit along side the road and wait for them to reveal themselves and then go setup on em. IMHO your setup is much more important than call selection. |

akyser1 If I was you I would check our Mi laws. I have used high powered rifles on land in the lower. I THINK that high powered rifles are only banned for deer hunting, unless the law has changed in the last 20 yrs. |

Use different calls. Don't use the same type all the time they get used to a certain call and they stop coming to it. Switch it up every few hunts to keep them coming. They have the same rule in Illinois but it is for deer. They still hunt coyotes with high powers. Like Mowgle said dopuble check your state regs and when you find it keep it with you so you can reference it when checked. |

Forget calling it won't take long before they won't respond to calling. Learn to trap them. I've gone into spots where the guys they have shot them all and caught twice as many as they shot. Yotes are a lot smarted than people give em credit for. |

Mowgle is right. No high power rifles in zone 3 during deer season. No such restriction for 'yotes. As always check the regs for yourself. Any CO will tell you that ignorance of the law is no excuse. |

Sorry, didn't answer your original question. Start with a squeaker or something on the quiet side. Bump up the volume and change sounds to reach more distant. Maybe add scent to your setup, Coyote Juice or canned dog food. A friend watched me use a deer grunter as a distress call and asked when we were done "What was that ??" All I'm saying is don't be afraid to experiment.
