I've got a couple of groundhogs digging holes in my horse barn. They seem to live in a large rock pile about 50 yards away then travel to the barn.  I want to sit a little ways away and nail then as they travel back and forth.  Actually this is just as much sighting in my rifle and target practice too. Is there any food or bait I can use to get them to come into the open and sit still for just a few minutes?  Any other ideas how to get rid of them? I've trapped 1 but only 1 in 3 years.

Sit in the barn and wait quietly. Some times known as whistle pigs, I have had the come out and investigate a whistle. Listen to them talk and give it a try.

A friend of mine swears that if you pour "used" kitty litter down the holes that they head for new digs.  (Pun Intended)

If I had that problem I would use a trail cam and get some idea of the times they appear.

The best thng I think would be like mwgole says setup some camera and see if you can findout what time of day they are moving I have done this in New Mexico with what we call rock squirrels and have also had my wife call them and bushwack the things due to them being so sneaky.

Woodchucks move at all times of the day but are most active in the early morning and late afternoons feeding.

make a snare around there hole with fishing line then fill the hole with water . when they come out jerk the line and strangle the lil bastids used to do this when I was a young punk
