I went shopping with the idea of purchasing a .243Win on my mind, thinking it would make a very nice coyote/whitetail rifle then I ran into a delema. On the rack at a local gun store I came across a Stevens model 200 chambered for .25-06Rem. I'm thinking the 25-06 would be a little more deer capable but I'm woundering if it might be a bit big for coyotes? I would like to be able to get a decent price for the hides after I shoot them. Any thoughts on why one might be better than the other and/or loads to use in either case would be helpful in making my choice. Hand loading is a option for me as well. Thanks! |

Check around at your local stores and see how many carry .243 vs .25-06 ammo. I like the .243 win for all the same reasons you walk into that gun store ! |

Both will work well for deer and yotes. Also both will make large hole in the yotes. As SDOWLING says, check on ammo or take up reloading. |

I would think the 25-06 is the better cartridge but the 243 is available everywhere. |

Okay guys thanks for your input. I just bought a Stevens 200 in .243win. I just couldn't get over the price of the 25-06 ammo compaired to the .243 ammo. Now with the rifle bought time to put a scope on it. I'm leaning towards a Redfield Revolution 3-9 x40 or a Nikon buckmaster 3-9 x40 both scopes seem to be bright and clear and I think should be about perfect on a yote/deer gun. |

Just remember if you reload you can use 270 cases for resizing and shoot them after you have trimmed and sized them it takes some work and is cheaper on your pocket. But if you find 25-06 brass let me know I can always use some for my grandkids to learn to shoot. |
