I could give you plenty of the basics but H2O Elkaholic can give you the best advise for Oregon. If I remember correctly, he hunted up there for a good number of years. Can also recommend that if you haven't already, next time you get on to the first page of forums, scroll down and post this in the Oregon section. While my advise and help will really cover anywhere you hunt Elk, that is where you can get the best advise. Just give it a couple days and I am sure that H2O will reply to this post. Cangrats, welcome to Elk hunting and good luck!

I have never hunted that area of Oregon, or even been around there much at all either. Find some unit and area maps to get a little familiar with the area. Google Earth or similar program may help to get a feel of the area too. If you live close enough, take a weekend trip down there and scout it out.

I'd suggest getting in touch with the game dept and asking for the name and number of the big game biologist for that part of the state. And then use that person's knowledge to guide you. I've done exactly that same thing in Colorado and Wyoming and have found the info the guy on the grounds has to be very valuable. Lots of people are afraid to contact the game depts for info but I have found them to be helpful. Besides, they work for you and you pay their salaries. Might as well use them to your advantage.

I've not hunted Oregon. I hunted Roosevelts on the Washington coast for 25 years. The 32 unit appears to on the Rocky mountain side. Having hunted both, Roosevelt and Rocky Mountain Elk, I can tell ya there is little difference in hunting them. Hunting Elk, is hunting Elk, don't think it matters 'where' much. Elk do what Elk do! Doesn't matter where you'r hunting them. Anyone posting so far will give you great advise! I'm sure of that!!!
