I used http://ballisticscalculator.winchester.com/ to compare  45 ACP Cartridges.

Sight-in Range 10 yrds
Max Range 50 yrds
Sight Height .9 in.
5 inch barrel

Cartridge            Bullet Type                         Weight       Muzzle Velocity  Ballistic Coefficient    50 yrds hits

45 Automatic      Silvertip Hollow Point        185 gr          1000 ft/sec       0.146                        .4 in low

45 Automatic      Brass Enclosed Base         230 gr           875 ft/sec        0.179                        1.4 in low

45 Automatic      Brass Enclosed Base         185 gr         1000 ft/sec        0.086                         .5 in low

The 185 BEB Ballistic Coefficient doesn't look right to me.

I am trying to figure which load would give the most down range energy.

Thanks for your help.

Google the Hornady Ballistic chart. Gives ya the energy for quite a few weights at 50 and 100 yds.

Go back into the ballistic calculator and click on the "View Statistics Chart" up in the upper right hand corner of the trajectory display. It'll provide the down range energy.

Grandpops

Found it.  Thanks for the lead.

Cartridge            Bullet Type                         Weight       Muzzle Velocity  Ballistic Coefficient    50 yrds hits  Energy at 50 yrds

45 Automatic      Silvertip Hollow Point        185 gr          1000 ft/sec       0.146                        .4 in low           361 ft-lbs/sec

45 Automatic      Brass Enclosed Base         230 gr           875 ft/sec        0.179                        1.4 in low         360 ft-lbs/sec

45 Automatic      Brass Enclosed Base         185 gr         1000 ft/sec        0.086                         .5 in low          334 ft-lbs/sec

So the silvertip would be the most effective at 50 yards.  If it shoots well.
