How many tail feathers does a tom have?  I have shot some toms w 18 tail feathers & some w 16?  Is age a factor?

Yes and no. I've heard a mature Tom has 18 but they can lose em in a fight. The big boss my daughter got this year had 19

I would imagine that the number would vary due to molting also.
