2012 Washington State NAHC Get Together Update #1

Fellow NAHC members,

As spring knocks on our door, it’s about time to turn our attention to our upcoming Get Together (GT). It’s a short 12+ weeks away, and it seems like this past year has flown by. As many of you know, this will be our 8th annual gathering.
While this GT is being held in Washington State, all NAHC members and their families are welcome. This being a family event, we encourage everyone to bring family members and friends of all ages.

The dates for this year’s annual event will be June 21st (Thursday) through June 24th (Sunday).

As in previous years, it will be a camping event held in a large wooded area on Taneum Creek between Cle Elum and Ellensburg. There is plenty of room for tents, trailers, and RVs of all sizes.
By consensus, the camping is “primitive”, as there will be no facilities or hookups. We do plan to have several honey buckets (or port-a-potties) for those with no restroom facilities, and a covered common gathering area in the case of adverse weather. In order to make things a little more pleasant for the ladies, one of the honey buckets will once again be designated “for ladies only”.

At this point, planned events are archery, clay & target shooting, and our usual potluck on Saturday night. These events have always been extremely popular, especially with the youngsters.

Local fishing and ATV riding opportunities are also available nearby, but they are not planned as organized events of the GT (motorcycles only on the trails and helmets must be worn on four-wheelers & motorcycles traveling the roads).

Once again, we’d like to emphasize this is a family event. Each year, the spouses, significant others, children, & friends have been welcomed as members of our NAHC “family”.
Not only would we like to see this tradition continue, but also to grow in attendance.

*Important Note – Due to a new state policy implemented on July 1st, 2011 a vehicle pass is required when accessing most state recreational land. Because our camping area is on WDFW managed land, this policy will apply. For those who purchase hunting and most fishing licenses for 2012, a vehicle pass is included. Otherwise, a state Discover Pass can be purchased for $35.00 for an annual pass and $11.50 for a daily pass(s).

Per the WDFW website:
Holders of certain hunting and fishing licenses do not need a Discover Pass on Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) lands and water-access sites; instead a Vehicle Access Pass for WDFW lands and water-access sites will be issued free with purchase of a big-game or small-game hunting license, western Washington pheasant permit, trapping license, Watchable Wildlife decal, or saltwater or freshwater or combination recreational fishing license.

For those not purchasing hunting or fishing licenses, Discover Passes can be purchased on-line at www.discoverpass.wa.gov or at nearly 600 sporting goods and other retail stores that sell recreational fishing and hunting licenses. A vendor list is available at http://wdfw.wa.gov/licensing/vendors/ or via a link from the Discover Pass website.

As in the past, further updates with additional information will be sent out as we get closer to our GT.

If you know of any NAHC members not receiving these updates who you think would like to, please contact any of the planning committee members listed below with their contact information. Or, please contact us if you have questions on the upcoming GT.

We look forward to seeing you and your families to share a campfire, stories, and the hunting camaraderie that is part of the NAHC.

Thanks for the heads up, JDOTSON.

I guess their mention of the July 1st date kind of confuses the issue, but the bottom line is we'll need a Discover Pass to be on WDFW managed land during the GT.

This is pretty sad for those who will only spend a few days a year on state land to have to incur such a cost.
There's got to be some way we can rise up and make our voices heard to get rid of this.  Or at least get to cut back on the amount.

Thanks again,
Steve
