i bought a tc .50 calib, rifle from a private individual.

That should be a lesson for all of us. Always and I mean always treat any firearm as loaded. Glad you were not hurt or had to answer to someone else getting hurt.

That is even when I get a new gun I clean it first .That could have been a disaster .

I have had the same thing happen on a auction rifle. It came to my house uncapped mind you, but loaded. But I always check them and then clean them, and shoot them. Glad you were careful enough that you did not make a mistake. And thanks for posting this. We can never be too careful when firearms are involved.

Yep, had several loaded guns come to my shop over the years.

I purchased a double barrel 12 ga. muzzleloader shotgun last year through an on-line auction. When I received the shotgun, I discovered one of the barrels loaded.

I bought a T/C Encore 209x50 barrel on fleabay about 10 or 12 years ago,and the guy shipped it to me via US Postal Service with 3 pellets and a powerbel in it!
No cap on it but still a stupid idea!
I brought it to the sellers attantion and the reply was that they where selling it for a friend who had no ebay account so didn't know!
I believe they also broke federal laws by shipping it via US mail!
The barrel itself would be legal but not the pellets that where in it!

Scary thing is that eventually 1 of these is going to fire in the posession of the mail service and instantly, Nation-wide, forever, no used guns will be allowed to be shipped via USPS, UPS, DHL or FedEx for anybody ever again. Like we say at the NPS living history weapons training, 'there will only be 1 weapons-related accident in the NPS, the first and the last.'

Swamper....kudos for cleaning the gun before taking anyones word whether it was loaded or not.

The first thing I do with all my guns (new or used) is to clean it well before shooting it.

I agree, it was good that you found out there was a problem before you became a part of it.
