My hunting friend from Ohio who hunts moose at Sandy Lake Lodge in Newfoundland, just harvested this superb Red Stag in New Zealand. He wants to return next year with two of us from the Lodge, to hunt Red Stag again. Sounds like a trip to me!  He is a Vietnam Veteran who, like other vets, deserves the rewards of excellent service to his country. I tip my hat to this exceptional hunter.

Will express your congrats soon. Still months until the moose hunt but eager to go. After working for 32 years and unable to go on a moose hunt , I had my fill of living vicariously through other hunters. I dearly hope coyoteslayer has only a short wait until he gets the hunts he really desires and most likely deserves. My camera will be rolling this fall. Meanwhile, coyotes have my attention.

The stag weighed 650 pounds, has 24 points and scores 348 points. It was shot at180 yards with a borrowed 33-38 Remington, 180 grain balistic tip. The flight to New Zealand cost $1551 through New Zealand Air and takes 24 hours from Ohio. Cost of cleaning the head was only $40, to wrap the antlers in bubble wrap and duct tape cost $18. The antlers were carried into and out of each airport over the shoulder because a box cost $400 from the carrier. Homeland Security questioned the package because of traces of hydrogen peroxide (H3O) that was used to clean the skull area. It was cleared and arrived home for mounting. The stag was free range.
