I am pretty new to reloading. I started reloading 30TC for my handgun and have now decided to start reloading .308 for my rifle. For the 30TC I am using Hornady 165 gr SST, Hodgdon 4895 powder and Federal primers. I was real surprised when I started looking for a reload receipt for the .308 that I could not find an almost identical receipt using these same components. Can one of you guys with more experience than I, explain this to me? Does anyone have a receipt, using the above components and supporting data, for my .308? Steve

My Hornady manual (7th edition) has data using those components.

Thanks to both of you for your replies. I knew the info must be available but just wasn't sure where to look. |

I haven't been online in awhile and was looking for a load recommendation when I came across your thread. I use 165 grain Hornady SST in front of 49 grains of Winchester 748. This shoots sub 1" MOA groups every day and when I can do my part it will shoot sub 1/2" groups. |

bdh, thanks for the info. I reload for my DPMS 308 WIN which is about 1 1/2" at 100 yds out of a 16" barrel but have never tried 748 which I do load in my 22-250 with terrific results so next time I will load it for the 308 . |

ckell, what's your load for 3031? I am loading Harnody 165SP and get .75" with 40 gr of 3031, 2427 avg fps, shooting 100 yds. The only other powder I have used is IMR 4064 and IMR 4895 with 1" to 2" results. All good enough for hunting but I like 1/2" 5 shot groups or better for shooting at paper. |

Your gun may like a little more or less powder. 39.9 gr 3031, ignited with CCI 200 primers, topped with for paper targets 168 gr. Burgers, for hunting 168 gr. Hornady. A-max or V-max. Avg 2500 fps with avg 25 fps diff. Hunting with Rem. 700 .500, 5 shot groups. Target Tekka T-3 about the same avg. speeds 5 shot groups. .172. I have had good luck with those loads, you just gotta play with it a little and find out what your gun likes. |

I still have a lot of playing around to do. Have not yet tried changing AOL and will try the Win 748 since I have it. I'm using WLR primers and I have around 2,500 of them so not ready to buy CCI yet. I think the 16" barrel makes a difference too. |

As ya noticed 2MT, everybody has thier own pesonal preferances. I'm no differant. I have found that my Rem. 700, will drive tacks all day long useing CCI 200 primers, 44.5 gr. of AA2520, behind a 165 gr. Sierra GK bullet, set with .018 free bore. Ya just have to experment to see what your rifle likes best! |

My Rem 700 is 30-06 and I don't hunt with it anymore so reloading for it is not a priority. By the time I do I may have used all my WLR primers and can buy some CCI. I do shoot the Sierra GameKing in my 22-250, 55 gr, and that is my hunting load for preditors, beaver and anything smaller than Pronghorn. I know it would do the job on them as well but WY, where I hunt them, has a 25 cal or larger restriction. So I hunt Pronghorn, whitetail and muleys with a 7WSM. Have a 300WSM for anything larger. If that's not enough gun.....I don't hunt it. I'll save your load data for future use. Thanks |

When you are reloading get as many manuals or go to some different websites for cross referneces as possible if dyou go to yard sales and estate sales you will find some just ask. The more information you have the better to keep reloading safely that is what is the most important. |
