when does Idaho put OUT this years hunting dates?  I am planning a trip for gunning after elk,  idaho fish n game on line is still 2011.

In the next month or two I never got a firm date last year when I was asking.

Probably two months. Seems like it takes forever. They like to get all of the hunter's reports and all the biological info they can before presenting dates to the Commission for approval. And, yes, they're calling to remind me to fill out my reports. I'm the doofus holding things up - sorry - I'll do it now!

I can't speak for southern Idaho, however if you are planning on hunting North....I can't remember the last time, if ever, elk with rifle (B tag) didn't open on October 10th. About the only thing that varies during the season is the length and the number of days in which you can shoot cows.

regs have been out about a month . if you want to put in for a draw hunt only a few days left till deadline, must be in mail by june 5

I got a controlled elk tag unit52a  I need to pick a date. when is best 0ctober 1st for 10 days or oct17?  Last year hunted the big desert with bow no luck saw tracks only, it was warm it was different for this mainer to sit near water hole 30 miles in desert also sat by  crop fields   hope october is cooler

well, early october you might catch the end of the rut and be able to call them in with cow calls if there is not to much hunting pressure. end of october will most probably be cooler so my advice is quit your job and hunt both
