Recently, my coon hound started chasing deer. First time in 4 years that I have had her. Does anyone have a proven way to get her to stop?

Shock collar or citronella collar. When she starts on deer give her a shot. |

I agree with gutpile, use a e collar and shock her when she takes after a deer scent.Just be sure to not say anything when you do it, you want the dog to associate the shock with the deer scent and not you. |

Well I had a old timer tell me how to break it. Its kind of smelly but it works. Take a bucks head off and tie it to the dogs neck antlers up so every time the dog goes for the head the antlers stop it and let the head rut off by the time that happens that dog will never chase another deer. Thats all i have for yea. |

shock collar work's best but you want to bee 100 percent sure the dog is on a deer when you shock it. I found the best way for that is to ride the roads @ dusk to catch a deer in a field close to the road or crossing a road & then dump the dog loose on it. another fine way is to get a road kill or fresh killed deer & hang it in the garage & then put the dog in there with it stand by a window looking in & everytime the dog goes up to the deer fry it. |

It is very hard to break a dog from running deer but it is possible. I agree 100% with everyone who said use a shock collar but DO NOT talk or yell at them when using the shock collar so you don't get your voice associated with the shock. |

Unkl Wib just beat the heIIl outta them.....worked but I wud not reccommend it today....Dad would beat heII outta any of his beagles that chased anything but a rabbit or a pointer that pointed a rabbit instead of a quail....I grew up that way but learned beating a dawg is really ntt the way to treat them...shock collar or scent traing with the variety on the market today |

I still say, send it down to me. I'll be happy to let it run deer!!!!!!!!!!! Good deer hounds are getting harder and harder to come by, unless you are able to keep breeding your good bloodlines, but eventually you have to have some new blood introduced into the gene pool. |

I agree with rthomas. You're lucky if you you find a great all around deer hound that will smoke a deer these days. |

BTW, a buddy and I owned three Plotts about 25 years ago. By obiedence training, patience, shock collars and scent traing, they would run Bear, Boar and Coon/Possum....nothing else.... |
