Hey guys, I have a 60 acre property I just started trapping with a ton of fox and yote sign. My question is how many sets is too many? Currently I have 3 sets on this property. Is this too much? not enough? I would assume game will spook with too many. What's your opinion?

By three sets do tou mean three traps? Always set at least two traps close by like within five feet. I would definitely find four or five more places to plant steel.

Thx I'm new to trapping and don't want to over do it. I'm going to check them now so I'll add a few more.

Rather than too many, have you caught any coyotes yet? Scent is very critical when setting traps. Use rubber boots that you keep outside the house and gloves that you also leave scent free. I had coyotes coming after pears this year. I putout two traps and caught 3 in two weeks. I quit losing pears.

I'm always careful w/scent regardless of what animal I'm after. But a little rain never hurts either. Had some 2 days ago. Then this morning a nice suprise, a really big female caught on a blind set on a pinch point between two trees. Thanks for the advice Gutpile this was one I put out after your post. Will post pics if I can get them off my phone.

I'm working on it I'm hooked! 3 so far, got the last one on video. I'll post one this thread when I upload it. Or I'll start a trapping photo thread as I don't see one yet.

Sorry for the late reply, but most trappers alway do what we call gang setting. 3 or more traps at each location. I generally run 2 dirt holes then either a flat set or post set...

I don't get crazy about scent as a coyote or fox will know you've been there. Yes I wear rubber boots and gloves. I don't use the same pair of gloves for setting traps as I do for luring. Bet lure or bait scent on the trap instant dig out. If you're just trapping coons no gloves or boots are required them buggers don't give a darn.
