In my younger days I used a 243 almost exclusively and as I recall it had a 1:9 twist. I tried just about all the weights available at the time which as I recall went as light as about 60 grains but never could get them to shoot nearly as well as the heavier 85 to 100 grain bullets. Also over the years I have found a 1:12 twist stabilizes the lighter bullets best while a 1:10 or 1:9 will do best with the heavier end of the bullet weights.

I use a 55 grain seirra out of a 6mm rem. This is a p. dogs worst nightmare.. LOL It will splatter them all over the ground. I do believe that they were traveling at about 3990 fps.

The Nosler manual lists H414 as the most accruate powder they used with their 55 gr. bullets. That would be a good starting point. I load 55 gr. bullets in a 6mm Rem and use IMR 4895 with very good results.

I havent shot a .243, but I used 55gr on my .240 and I couldnt get them to group very well. Just a little to light. I am gonna try some 75 gr next.

Been using 60gr. HP Sierras for years in my .243. I get good accuracy and they work well on coyotes too. Plan to use them on wolves also if any ever show up.
Just think. If we weren't different, you'd be just like me !

I just loaded up some 55gr Hornady VMax bullets with once fired Remington Cases, Varget, and CCI 200 primer. I'm shooting 3/8 inch groups at 200 yards out of my TC Venture. I use them for groundhogs in PA, and they make a heck of a mess. Planning on using the same load for yotes, too.
