CVA Optima Pro Magnum 50 cal. inline with a Simmons 3x9 on top.  I know.  Cheap scope.  But, it works.  The only scope mounts I could find for it were  the see through  kind.  I really don't like them.  Although its kinda cool that if I have a close shot.  I can use the iron sights instead of the scope.  Only problem is that it puts the scope really high above the line of the barrel.

White .451 (put 3 deer in freezer this year) in Super 91 have one in .504 and Model 97 Whitetail in .504 as well. The White Thunder .12 ga. is used for squirrels, made for turkey, but they aren't very plentiful around here.
Life may change us, but we begin and end with family.

Savage Muzzleloader

I thought I would share what I consider an amazing event for me.

On January 6, 2012 I had fired my Savage ML1, 4 times to check the rifles zero before going hunting with it that year. My loading data was as follows: MMP Sabot, Winchester 209 Primer, 49gr of Reloader #7, Nosler Partition Hand Gun .451 dia. 300gr JPP bullet (45350). This combination produces a muzzle velocity of approx. 1837 fps. I did not harvest a deer with the Savage that muzzleloader season. I removed the 209 primer and placed the rife into my gun safe. On January 8, 2013 I took my Savage ML1 out for a hunt. (The load had been in the Savage ML for 1 year and 2 days) On that date at approx. 0941 hours I harvest a deer at approx. 120 yards (Lecia rangefinder used to verify) The bullet made contact near the base of the deer's neck. A bit to right side of the deer. (My wavering as I was shooting from a unsupported sitting positron). The bullet broke the deers right shoulder passed through the body and ended up just below the skin of the left mid thigh. The bullet had traveled approx. 31 inches through the deer. Upon extracting the bullet I discovered the bullet had retained a awsume mushroom shape. Latter using a scale both a RCBS 10-10 scale and a Pact electronic scale discovered the bullet still weighted 300 gr. Amazing. The lead portion above the partition had separated but was still in the cup. The brass pedals had flared out as intended. Again awsume performance of the Savage and Nosler bullet.

My first was a CVA .50 cal. ? Frontier, Hawken-style. I later sold it to a friend after acquiring a Thompson/Center White Mountain Carbine. Later, I got a T/C 209x.50 Encore. Then, I bought an antique cap-lock double barrel shotgun with Damascus twist barrels in excellent condition. My kids gave me a Traditions .50 cal. Hawken-style kit which I put together. Later still, I acquired a left-handed model (I shoot left-handed) Kentucky style flintlock, .45 cal., that was built by an older friend some 25-30 years ago under the tutelage of an experienced builder of that style of rifle. I have killed deer with all the rifles except the Traditions which I have not used for hunting yet, two elk with the T/C Encore (one at a ranged 200 yards), and I have killed turkey with the shotgun. Each of these guns have their quirks and load preferences which make shooting them all loads of fun.
