Thanks jbw! No the camera is just set up on a trail that the deer use from time to time, Do you think I should set up a salt lick? Im still new to the hunting scene so any advice is well appreciated.

McAvene a salt lick won't really help your hunting, once a buck looses it velvet and a doe wheens her fawns they kinda loose interest in a salt or mineral lick. But, it is great for getting them to pose for a trail cam! Just setting the camera on a trail is pretty hit and miss, but I have 6 cameras out right now on different mineral licks and 4 of them get around 125 pics a week each, 1 cam only seems to get about 35 pics a week. and the last one gets over 600 a week. with a mineral lick you will get pics of every deer in the area!

I haven't had much time to check cameras lately, I've been morel hunting, I posted pics of that, and I got the chance to hunt some Buffalo that escaped from a buffalo farm too, and I posted pics of that too! but I got a chance to check a camera close to the road the other day and got some pics of a buck that is just getting to the point where his new antlers are about to branch!

I mowed my future food plot yesterday and checked my camera thats set-up by it. got a nice pic of a doe

you can see my ladder stand in the background, I have been mowing this spot so it would be less work when

I get ready to put my food plot in. Kinda looks like a park now!

Got a pic of a buck thats starting to branch a little

I've noticed the bucks don't seem to enjoy each others company around my mineral licks right now

these deer look mad!

jbw223 thank! I am from southern Ohio. I don't know why people go out and buy the expensive salt licks and mineral blocks that are "Whitetail" specific. If you look at the ingredients on the deer specific ones you can compare them to the ones at the local farm supplier (Tractor Supply, Rural King, etc.) and get some that are extremely close. I have a 50lb Salt Lick that cost me $1.99 at Rural King (on sale), and you may notice in the background of some of my pictures another block, it is a 30lb Mineral Lick (Mainly Protein, Calcium, and Magnesium among other minerals that were listed in the ingredients of other “Whitetail” specific mineral blocks) that was only $5.99. They both will probably last me until next year since they are out of the reach of any farm animals and only the deer can get them.

That must be the mineral block that I was wondering if it was a woodchuck or something, by the limb on the ground.?.?. You guys have some nice pics posted by the way.

Yea, that is my mineral block.  Last time I checked it they had hardly touched it yet, mainly just going for the salt.  Im sure it will start getting hit pretty hard soon though

Yep, thats what I was thinking was a whistle pig. Just made sense at the edge of what looks to be a bean field.

dclever, I just use salt from the feed store, too. I use salt with selenium and trace minerals, the deer farmers in my area clame it good for the deer and thats what they use. It costs about $6.00 for a 50 lbs block or bag of loose salt. I dig a hole about twice as big as a block, throw the block in then mix a bag of the loose salt into the dirt as I re-fill the hole. You don't need to add salt again for years, but I fresen it every spring to be safe. The selenium salt is tan colored so everybody dosen't see it from a mile away like a white block. I'm heading out right now to check a couple of camera, might post some new pics soon!
