After nine years of trying, finally drew a bull moose permit for WMD # 7 in Maine. Looking for any info as to were to start scouting before the season begins. I drew into the Oct 10-15 time slot. Also, any info on reasonable cabin rental available in the Andover/Roxbury Me area would be appreciated. R. Hart

Check out Coos Canyon in Byron, Me. They have both campground & nice cabin. The owner is a licensed guide and very hospitable. You should be able to find on internet search. I got a nice bull near Weld, Me several years ago. P/M me and I'll tell you exactly where. |

Congradulations on the lottery success. I've been trying to get one myself for years with no luck. I'd be looking around the tim pond rd out to eustis... burnt mtn , cow ridge. I'd also be staying in oquossoc to save on travel time ( i could recommend a couple of rentals too if you like) |

We have a Maine Atlas that has a topo map of the Tim Pond Road area, looks like a good area to hunt. Any info on rentals in the Oqossoc, Me area would be appreciated. You are right about the travel time if we find a rental in the Oquossoc, Me area. Thanks for the reply.

Horsefly2 It was a tough hunt, weather was hot and the Moose only moved early in the morning and late at nite and were located in the cut-overs well off the roads. We did a semi-guide hunt with the guide only guiding, he did an excellent job, as we got a Bull Moose on the second day, dressed out at 760# and had a 45 " antler spread. I have not got the pictures processed yet and I will find out how to sent pics as I've never done that before, I from the old school, take a picture and put it in an album. R. Hart |

Bobbythehunter Thanks for the Congratulation. Sorry for the delay, I was waiting on the pic's, pic's are on my brother's camera and have not been processed yet, as mentined before. As for a tough hunt reference, it was a tough hunt to us, as we did most of the work ourselves, i.e.- it took 32 hours of actual drive time to drive from FL to ME, and we scouted two days before the season came in. Yes, we took the Moose on the second day, but it also took us 5 hours to get the the Moose to our truck on the day of the kill, then we had to check the Moose at the ME checking station for the WMA we were in. We skinned and quartered the Moose, put the quarters in 120 Qt Coolers and headed back to Fl, taking another 34 hours of drive time. We processed the Moose ourselves which took another 2 days. So a 2 day hunt actually took eleven days from start to finish. R. Hart

Thanks for the update, and congratulations!! Always nice to get the game you're after following a long trip to get there. I think moose is the best game meat I have ever had. If you don't have the head mounted, you could get a beautiful horn mount for memory sake. Thanks for sharing the excitement.
