In my opinion, regardless of how many "yes" and "no" responses you get, you just cant replace being there. I find that a lot of people who respond tend to jump into that "this is what I would have done!" state of mind instead of really putting themselves in the other persons shoes. Its way too easy to just look at the facts and make judgement. I honestly think that the reallity of the matter is that most of us, being put in these situations, at these specific times, in these conditions with only a couple seconds to make a descidion, would have taken the shots also. Of course I do realize that the whole purpose of the "you call the shots" thread is to look at things after the fact and give an opinion of what should have been done differently, if anything. However, I don't care for reading comments made by others critisizing the descidions made that turned out well in the end. It tends to make a lot of people sound like they think they know better than everyone else.

That's why I was suggesting that they make it part of the "You Call the Shots" with the pros doing it. I've read of the articles where Larry Weishuhn would take 300 yd shots at a quartering-to whitetail with only a 2-in gap to shoot through. I'm glad he's that confident, because I'm not!

I'm thinking that it would be nice to have other professionals' opinions on the same scenarios, to look at all the pros and cons of each scenario. As for me, once I get national and international recognition for my hunting achievements, then I'll put in my .02 about "Well I would have done this...". I would just like to hear other professionals' opinions, that's all!

I feel that any hunter's experience should dictate whether or not to take a shot. When I was 13, I went with my Dad deer hunting. A buck came running, chasing a doe and Dad stood up and shot the deer. He told me, that's how you do it. The next year, with his 30-30 I shot a buck running by my tree perch and hit him right thru the lungs. I've killed many deer since that first time, I'm 73 now. Most of the deer were moving or ruinning when I killed them. I'm talking about killing them with one shot. Most of my shots have been thru the heart or lung area, tending to be close to the backbone. I've never lost a deer that I shot. Growing up I learned to shoot with a B-B gun and it was strictly point and shoot. The sights on those red ryder bb guns were not accurate, so I never used them. I taught my son to point and shoot with air guns and he got very good at it.
