H&R is made in the USA, Rossi in Brazil and is owned by Taurus. You can buy a a older very nice 3 shot bolt action for about the same price as a single shot. I have seen H&R for around $110-125 if my memory serves me right.

I have and old Springfield single shot .410 my dad bought for my mom back in '62 . I think he paid about $25-30 dollars for it but I also remember him telling me in 1961 his take home pay as a master electrician at the paper mill was $40.00 a week and in '63 he paid $100 for a Remington 11-48 auto and $150 for a bird dog ( don't remember what kind). My how times have changed.

I've picked up many single shot shotguns in assorted gauges for under $100, especially if they are functional but ugly. Mostly H&R, Stevens and Winchester.

I,ve got an old 410 break action that has no markings but in looks quite similar to the break action that Marlin used to make. I know that was available in 12 and 20 don't know if they ever made it in 410. Its a nice little gun but gets little use as the ammo is more expensive than 12ga ammo. To me that is the biggest drawback to 410s.

many of the top gun makers (shotguns) made singel shot break action shotguns for what are called store model guns..ie western auto, western field, sears, abbot's hardware etc...they included stevens, savage, parker, fox, remington, winchester, ithica..and so many others it would fill up this page and several more to list them all...many of these old guns are still in very good shape and can be purchased for a very resonable price at gun, pawn and consignment shops...my favorite is the old stevens model 34 C in small gages..ie .410, 28 and 20...

I have a Harrington Richerdson or H and R single shot 410 for $60 at a gun show. Killed a lot of squirrels with it.

Rossi by far .but We use gamo .177 with superdome pellets. I also have a good scope,an with the crosshairs on the vitals it kills em with one shot. not a bunch of lil bbs or blown up meat.  an at the price of ammo going up 500 pellets for 6.99 or a small box for ? 410 ga shot cost the airgun cant be beat.   Dont get me wrong 410 is kool too

Folk I bought a Hawthorne .410 last year and it is a bolt action 3 shot. This has been a tremendously fun gun as I have not missed a squirrel yet even at 40 yards. I have been using a air rifle and as all those who hunt in SW Ohio the invasive bush honeysuckle has taken over and is so thick its unbelievable, places I use to hunt 4-5 years ago is now overrunned with it. Well to make a long story short, I can't get a crosshair on them as for the thickness, so I bought the .410 and now the rats better look out. I even took it to the range and shot slugs out of it and at 50 yards it is deadly accurate. Air gun is the best way to hunt Tree rats if you can, as when you skin them I use to not have a hole in the meat as I would head shot them.

Check Wally  World, I bought one a couple of years ago for about 75.00. I hardly ever use it, in fact the wife claimed it, the ammo costs more than my 12 gauge ammo and is harder to find than 12 gauge,  the only thing harder to find and more expensive is 16 gauge ammo.
