I enjoy my magazine, and the site (when the webby stays out of it), and as a LM, I figure that what I paid has already been recouped with the magazine subscription itself. Having been a member for over 30 years, I do miss the old original club that I was a Charter Member of, and recognize that we aren't actually members of a "Club", but consumers of a corporations product. I hold out hope that eventually, before i die, that I might actually get a product to field test, or possibly win a contest. I am not going to hold my breath, though.

That's good because I wouldn't want to read in your obituary that your cause of death was oxygen deprivation

I enjoy the forums and the magazine. I also enjoy when we can get together with other members, either on the forum, another site or in person. I hae made MORE than a couple great friends through NAHC as well. To me that in itself makes the membership worth while

I always liked the magazine, then decided to become a Life Member in '94 so I didn't have to mess with renewals and I got a leather jacket (I wish I got a bigger size). The forum is helpful if you need help with something or want to blow off some steam, hopefully there are no "new forum" issues from now on and you don't have to start over with a new ID as I did. I got a few items to test, nothing great, but when I became a Trophy Life Member last year I got a field dress kit to test that came in pretty handy last deer season, and the Cabelas savings alone will pay for the upgrade in  a couple years. As long as you don't want to debate the merits of 2,4-D with one member, or politics with another, you'll be allright.

I became a member in '92, LM  ' 94, TLM '10. I would echo a lot off what G FABER posted. Pretty new to the computer stuff, still learning the navigations etc. I like the mag, and reading the forums and BB. I think its a great place for like minded folks with differing opinions can chat and exchange  ideas, expiriences, and the like. I only have a dozen posts but I'm spending a little more time on our site and will be making a lot more! Could the club do better? I have yet to be in any club of any type that couldn't!! It's worth the effort though to try and make our better for our members even if not always successful. Its that ole squeaky wheel thing! I feel being a member was "money well spent"!

I suppose it depends on what you want to get out of the "club." I joined for the same reason as a lot of people, to get all the free gear they promised! But, after I got to "know" some of the guy's/girls here, I did the LM so I could stay in contact with them. The mag. really doesn't play too much into my desicion, as most of it is advertising anyways. Seriously, count the pages and you will see that 2/3 of it is ads. And, the free "stuff", well, don't hold your breath! I've got a couple things that where pretty cheesy, made in china, and probably not worth what it cost the club to send em to me. I guess the best part of the club is this forum where we can all get together and share stories and experience's of our hunts. Sharing knowledge of equipment and helping each other out with all sorts of questions.

I think it is a way for the NAHC to market products to what they think are a captive audience. I have only been a member for a month and paid when I joined and have yet to receive the free stuff promised (with paid membership). I have received two invoices for the aforementioned paid dues, and a new wrinkle was a book that if I accepted would obligate me further. My account already shows the invoice for the book, which I received yesterday and put back inthe mail to them today. Their customer service line is a joke that keeps routing you to different messages, but never lets you talk to a live person, sort of like 'Peggy" on the Discover commercials. I have requested a refund and to end my enrollment but no contact yet.

gfirstsgt; First off, welcome to the club. Second, give things time and READ .....ALOT of the forum posts. Reason being is that you are not alone. As you read posts, you will notice 3 extremes. 1 being those that complain that they don't receive any FREE stuff. ( No offense, but usually the new folks) the second being those "old timers" that have been around and respond to the complaints with the fact that they haven't gotten much (if anything) , don't care about it, and consider the info and friends that they made over the years their best benefit. And 3 is all the great info about any aspect of hunting that you could imagine that is offered by fellow members. (NOW THAT'S THE BEST FREEBEE OF ALL FREEBEES!) I have only been a member 1 year now, and haven't seen anything of the free stuff. But I too never really anticipated it, and don't really care down the road. I joined for the commodery and knowledge that everyone has to offer. That's why it is called a hunting club and not a freebee club. Again, no offense, just give things time and if you can accept that you won't see much of the freebees, I think overall you will begin to like the club for the openess and willingness to help from the other members. Take note though; like everything else, there are (I'll refer to them as "goofballs" ) goofballs out there that want to stir stuff up and have no place here, but take no offense if they test your waters. That's why I mentioned read.....alot of posts. You'll get the idea. Again, welcome, and hope you decide to stay.

Thanks for your post ShootinJ.  I have read a lot of post as I turned here in frustration in the first place.  I don't care so much for the free stuff, but I do care about fulfilling a commitment, and the club has not done that.

Well, I have to say the club has changed ove the years, but the ones that's been around a long time, there wern't as many people standing in line for things as they are now. The club has GROWN.  Also, I have to agree with BWARNER, I enjoy reading a lot of the postings and have made some new friends here. I'm not on here as much as some, but have always been teated well. The few complaints I have had with club business has been taken care of to my satisfaction.  Just an added note, to BWARNER if your knives work as good as they look I am looking forward to getting the one you're working on for me.

I have been a Life Member since 1998. And when Ii first became a regular member and then a life member I really enjoyed the magazine. it had useful topics and entertaining feature articles. (I really miss Mingus) but now as I read the magazine I see several changes. One the articles are not as good as they used to be. Alot of fluff to fill a magazine. and every other page is an advertisement. I can say back at the turn of the century (2000) lol i was lucky to get a Tarus .22 pump rifle to field test and that was the first and last descent thing I field tested.I think the best thing i found was the boards. I have met several people here I call friends and had 3 fun get togethers. So Welcome to the club and enjoy it.

Wow! A Trophy Life Member! You let them stick their hands in your wallet again! I can't believe someone would fall for this new trick. It was my belief that the type of  membership we currently have included the testing of products that you just paid a horrendous amount for in addition to your Life Membership. I truley hope that the field dress kit was worth the extra money. As far as Cabela's discounts, you can get them for free just by joing Cabela's Club. Sorry my fellow member, but screw me once, stupid you! Screw me twice, STUPID ME!

The information alone on any subject with hunting, magazines and the seldom, but a bonus if you get it free item, is worth the membership i think. If you dont get anything out of this club and just joined for the free stuff, then yes your probably gonna get your heart broken!
