Just wondering if there were any other disabled Vets on here. I was in the US Navy for 10 years, was a parachute rigger for the first 4 then worked as a MAA the last 6. Was in-charge of the paraloft for the majority of the 4 years (nearly the entire time) and was the patrol supervisor and chief investigator as well as on an anti-terrorist team while with the maa's. I was put out on a disability in 93' for multiple sclerosis and man I tell you that caused a serious life style change !
Any others out there ?

Sorry to hear that Hawk, my condition has not degraded to the point the I cannot get around, yet. So I can still get out there and hunt. I have take a buddy of mine out that also has MS and cannot get around without a wheel chair and set him up for a bow hunt, and though he did not get the shot, he had 5 mature does within range of his bow. He said that made his day in itself. Where abouts are you from Hawk ? |

I did my "A" school in Lake Hurst NJ, Hawk. Small world. DHALL, where do you hail from, are you anywhere close to Missouri, if so maybe we can get a hunt going sometime. |

LS---Just in case he doesn't see your question, Dave lives in a suburb on the southwest side of Detroit out past the airport. He was up at my place deer hunting a couple years ago and I also took him turkey hunting at Fort Custer.

Cool, I was under the impression that he did not get out to hunt much from his post, but sounds like he has plenty of hunting buddies.

I'm a Vietnam vet 100% from agent orange if you guessed by my user name I only have one leg left you would be right. I live in southern Oregon about a half hour from elk and deer country, about ten minutes from salmon fishing in the Rogue river there's also bird hunting and bear and cougar hunting. we have deer and wild turkey in our front yard. there seven lakes to fish in under an hours drive, ten minutes for the closest, there's only one that's wheelchair accessible but I can shoot from from my vehicle and I'm allowed to shoot cow elk or bull elk. I was in the Navy my first time in Vietnam I was in a combat salvage unit. Then I went back on a destroyer on it I was a pilot rescue swimmer., then I came home and somehow I missed the parade. I was born and raised in northern Idaho where I shot my first deer when I was twelve, six point bull elk at seventeen. I worked in the woods in Idaho and Oregon so I knew where the game was hanging out. Since my disability is service connected I have a lifetime hunting and fishing license. I have lifetime membership in NAHC, VFW,DAV,AMVETS,and American legion that's my Bio. |

Sorry to hear about your disability Pegleg, but at least your state recognizes your service. Here in Missouri you only get very limited recognition. Free state fishing license and small game that is about it, everything else you pay for. I have lived in other states that recognize a persons service and think it is great, but for some reason Missouri does not. |

Hello, I have a 10% serviced connected disability for my shoulder, but I don't consider myself disabled. It does limit me on some things but for the most part I've learned to work around it. I live in SW Georgia. |

Oregon does even more. I have lifetime disabled veteran license plates free admittance to state parks, veterans exemption on property taxes, so I guess I get some pretty good advantages compared to Missouri, I missed a couple other memberships in my Bio I'm a life member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, a life member of the NRA and a member of the United States Concealed Carry Association, The Derelict Veterans Group and the Medford Rifle and Pistol club. |

Welcome Senmec glad to have you with us. When I was first diagnosed with MS they rated me at 30 % but within 5 years they had upgraded me to 100 percent and while I am still able to get out there and do most things I do have limitations, just little things that pop up without notice........... like my legs just decide to stop working, lol. But so far I have been lucky enough that only one quits at a time and I have a leg brace I can lock down so that I can manage to get out of the woods if I need too. But hey, I am suborn and if I have to stay the night what the hey. I have a few other things that tend to try to work against me too, but as long as I can manage I will continue to hunt and fish. I admire all of you out there that have disabilities and do not let them hold you back ! Service connected or not. Maybe some day we can get a hunt going for us "have to try a little harder hunters". |

Thanks Longshot. I'm currently having some problems with my leg, but the only "problem" my shoulder gives me for hunting is that I stick to lower recoil calibers. Fortunately, my .270 Win. is all I need in SW georgia. |

You sound like mirror of my claim and benefits what state are you in. We need to be real vigilant the current administration is liable to say PTSD is reason to take our guns away under the " have you ever been treated for a mental health illness?" |
