This past Tuesday (12th) marks the one year anniversary of me falling down the stairs and messing up my knees. I am so looking forward to deer hunting again since I missed last year. We're heading to DuBois next weekend for the youth/old guy rifle doe season. Maybe Grandpa and my son can sit together and I can chase something towards them. I can't imagine a better hunting scenario than that.

Had more than a few yesterday at our goin' away party. It was at one of our friends house and there were about 20 of us there. I see the Yankees lost and the Phillies lost also yesterday. Rite now I'm sipping on some java to ease some of the after affects from the party. Have a great day everybody.

Thanks Skwirl.  Yeah, I have to look you up one of these days.  You still sellin' cars?  If so, what days and hours are you working?

Why's it so slow in here?  I mean, can't hunt today, except for coyotes, crows, oppossums, skunks, woodchucks, etc.

It was a beautiful day in Lancaster county, I was too busy outside to be on the computer until now.  Mowed the grass, messed with the drivers window on the Jeep, cooked steaks on the grill etc.   Anybody know anything about power windows in a Jeep Liberty?  Mine's messed up.

BTW, hunting groundhogs on a Sunday is a NO-NO

Time for  cold one,  I'm buying.

Who's this new guy Homesick2???? Oh, now I remember... I think. Where the heck have you been dear friend? Poor old Gully over on Woods & Water has been worrying about you for the last 6 months. WT 101 just called me, he nailed a
5 x 3 yesterday with the bow. He's a happy camper. I spent 12 hrs on stand yesterday and didn't see a deer, after 6 hrs my back hurt so bad I had to take a "Happy", thank God for drugs. I just might have to plant my Lazy Boy up there on the mountain. Welcome back bud.
Hey, gotta go, some buds just dropped by to watch the Phils.Be back later. Still have time for a shooter of OLD#7 and a round for the bar.

LOL!!! Thanks, just been a busy year/summer Snake. Good, but busy. Moved my Gramma twice, my Mah once, a buddy, and I finally bought a place of my own, so that's another move. I'm not very far from your camp now, I mean, not that I was that far before, but now I'm even closer. It's not like I haven't been thinkin' of you, Skwirl, Trevor, WT101, Gully, and everyone else on the boards. I haven't been on W&W in forever, guess I'll have to drop in. A 5 X 3? Uh, that's not typical. Very cool!! 12hrs + no deer = new stand. That's just my thinkin'. How does your back feel standing or walking. Reason I ask is 'cause a lot of times when my back is bothering me, walking helps, and I still hunt. Today was the first day I've been out that I haven't seen deer. 'Course now it's some psuedo muzzleloader season with rifle later this week, then my bow huntin' gets messed up with other overlapping this and that. Oh well, guess it's better than a sharp stick in the eye.

dk - I'm not gonna break out the regs, and that's the point! There're just as many critters you CAN hunt on sunday's as those you can't.

jd - Sorry to hear you have a deke problem. Don't remember if your still on active duty or not, but when I had a deke problem I went to medical.

Well Gents,

It has been it's been a bit for me. Between wood, work and scouting, the misses bionic knee, it has been a handful. l thought I would stop in for a couple.

Hi Homesick nice to meet you, I am Shovel. I have been to Snakes Camp just briefly but cooked them some good food. I have been scouting for a good spot to take my daughter for the youth hunt and hope to hook up wityh DK in the eve' since he is is taking his son to the same WMU I am taking my daughter, only in different places., but not far from each other.

Work has been relentless, they want to get so much done B4 the snow flies and I told them a month ago that it would be the end of Oct. and that is what they are calling for tonight.

Snake,

sorry to hear about your back, damn buddy I feel bad for you. I went through that in the early 80's and the word "Happy" is the way most evenings get done .... can't do the "Happy" at work. After 10 truck loads of wood, blowing leaves, getting ready for winter, it has taken it's toll on me. Oh! lets not foregt trying to train a Bluetick to hunt.( Son's Dog)

Skwirl,
Did you have alot of frost yet ? I am sure you have because I have had 2 so far and the last one was the killing frost ... got down to 29 here. GET RID OF THE BUGS is all I have to say! I am tired if the pest. If you ever get down my way just give me a yell before you come ... the same with the rest of you gents. I can get you a good burger .... how does a 2# sound but if there is more than 5, you can try the 6# LOL .... DennysBeerBarrlePub.Com.... good food.

DK,
 The window!
It might be the switch... if it gets too wet they quit working. If not it could be a fuze but not likely. Most of the time it is in the switch or wiring,. I would run a tester on the wiring to make sure you have power to the motor then if you don't then it is the switch. If you have power there then the motor is probably shot.... sounds like a junkyard trip if that's the case.

I guess I have filled you all in on the happenings from Clearfied County for now.

P.S. I can hear the two things here .... the Elk and the Drill rigs... which do I prefer.... the first of course!

Hey Shovel,  the wife already made dinner plans for us on Saturday evening.  Plus I just found out I have a funeral to attend at noon on Saturday.  Here's hoping a doe comes by early in the AM for you and us both.  We'll be up for Thanksgiving and Opening Day, might be able to put something together then.

Homesick, you're right there are a ton of regs, I just didn't want someone thinking you could hunt chucks on Sunday and getting fined.  I wish we could hunt chucks on Sunday but oh well, maybe someday.

I got the day off tomorrow, well not really, have to go to the dentist then help my daughter move then drive to DuBois after Kalan gets out of school.  Busy day, I'm sure I'll need some relaxation tomorrow evening!

Good news guys..... B B D!!! Big buck down. Tues PM I took my smokepole, my oldest son took his bow. He nailed a large buck just before sundown that headed into a large swamp. Said it had at least 4 pts on one side and a "y" on the other side. So, we went back to the truck for hip boots and called some of his buds to help track the rascal. Tracking at night in a swamp full of water is TAXING. After 3 hrs and 3 blood soaked beds we found him sleeping peacefully on a small island about 300 yds into the swamp. Turns out he was a 5 x 2. How a deer could travel that far, with one lung out and the liver almost cut in half, and with that much loss of blood, amazes me. So... one in the freezer for this year. Tomorrow the grandson gets his chance to nail a Doe, maybe more good news is on the way.
Homey, like I said before, I've been living with this back problem ever since I got hurt and paralyzed fighting a barn fire with the local fire co. back in '71. The doc's told me corrective surgery was the only way to fix it. I chose to live with it. Hey, I'm not crippled, but each year it gets worse, and it aches constantly. Again T G for "Happys".

Shovel, sounds like you've been bustin your hump lately. Take a break and relax. Chase mom around the house and have a few frosties on me.

Snake,

Congrats on the kills for your son and grandson. I had the daughter out yesterday and had three grouse wake up around us, then around 8:00 am we had a nice 5 point come sneaking around some tall weeds and didn't see it until it got within 30 yards of us, I have to give the girl credit she didn't shoot because she new it wasn't fair game yet. That was the only deer we seen all day and makes 4 different bucks I have seen in the area since last Saturday. In the afternoon we had 4 huge gobblers walk along feeding 45 yards away which I caught on video and just about dark we had a grouse fly out of a tree that had been there while we sat waiting on deer for 3.5 hours.

Yesterday was kind of special for me ... 10/23/10... made it exactly one year to the day that took my father on his last hunt. It is only fitting that I got to take my daughter on her first hunt on the same day a year later. I will treasure that date forever.

Well I have one more load of wood to cut and I am done for the year, but still have to take up leaves one more time so it will be another busy day.

Take care and thanx for the frosties Snake.

We were only able to hunt for about 3 hrs on Saturday morning. As we were driving out the road before daylight, a deer crossed in front of us but we couldn't tell what it was. Watched 3 fat gray squirrels run around for about an hour, then about 8 oclock, Kalan says " I think I saw something big and brown move over there." Sure enough it was a deer...with a nice little 4 point rack. Never thought I'd say 'darn' about seeing a buck but DARN!

About 9 AM then, Kalan dropped off the ridge to where my Dad was picking corn and I made a swing around thru the woods towards them but didn't put anything out.

So tag soup is still on the menu but we had a great hunt. He was pretty excited since this is the first time he's seen deer when he's been hunting deer. Now if that 4 point just shows himself at the end of November!

Shovel I got the Jeep window figured out but not fixed, I'm pretty sure I need a new regulator and since we can get the window to go 'down' and 'up' works fine, I think I'll wait till Spring to spend the $$$

Well now DS, finally the jinx is broken.... congrats my friend. Sorry you're leaving good old Pa. I just hope you pop in this joint frequently to keep in touch. We'll miss ya.
DK and shovel, I think taking our youngsters out hunting is a blessing. Memories that will last a lifetime for both us and them. I just can't imagine not being able to hunt. Soooooo... lets vote all liberals OUT.

Big plans for this week end, 3 or 4 batches of deer jerky, and 70 lbs of burger to be made into smoked and fresh sausage. Can't wait to get started.
Homey, you still living in the same place?
