TANX gully, but with 4 deer in the freezer so far this year, I need another deer like I need another wife. I do appreciate the offer. Since I don't butcher my deer anymore, with the butchering fees I paid this year, I could have bought a nice hunk of steer. This being on a fixed income sux.... along with getting old. My #2 son is coming back from Dallas on the 16th for Xmas and flintlock season. So I might have to do some home butchering if he scores. How did your season go this year?
DS, glad you stopped in. Cindy-san is doing fine, still needs to work on her pool shooting"form". Last week after the Eagles game, she burned all her Eagle outfits. She's weariung Steelers garb now. Drinks on the snake.

Snake, I got a buck and two does here in Pa, and two does and a 13pt in NC so far. Geeze, you gettin' to old to butcher deer? Man, I just turned 64 and love to do my own. Got it down to about 20 min to skin, shoulder, and completely bone out the rest while completely on the skeleton
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and all my NAHC bretheren

Congrats on the deer gully, we both will be eating good this winter. I already made up 4 different kinds of sausage and 25 lbs of jerky, all vacuum sealed and frozen.
As far as butchering.... I have a close friend who does most of my butchering, he's not cheap, but he does give me a sizeable discount on the fee. We did do the 1st one this year ourselves back in Oct., because he was away on a hunting trip.
Nice to hear from God's country. How you be skwirl?? Hope the deer God's treated you good this year. Can't wait for spring and the turk hunt. C U then.
Merry Xmas to all and very Happy New Year.
Tanx for the drink. I'll buy rest of tonight.... heck, it's Xmas Eve.
Good luck and be safe to all the Flintlockers this year.

Merry Christmas All! Hope Santa brought you some goodies.

I got a couple of topos for the one of the local SGL's and my son got a new Gerber Gator knife so he can clean his own deer now. Plus I got some unexpected cash, now to decide, more reloading components or a muzzleloader?

Happy New Year to all. Drinks on the snake tonight.

Happy New Year to All!

Cabelas has a sale coming up on stuff including wool clothing. I might spring for some new wool pants, my old plaid Woolrich seems to have shrunk around the middle. Only took 35 years but they shrunk, darn it. I'll get some components and save the rest as seed money towards the smokepole. Unless I find something else at Cabela's, that happens an awful lot!

Hair of the dog or coffee, your choice, it's on me

Well, Tanx skwirl, 64 down, and hoping for 64 more. I always like to start off the new year with my birthday celebration of a nip or two of OLD#7. Doc says it's good for the heart.
Boy dk did you ever bring back memories by mentioning the plaid woolrich clothes. I specifically remember convincing my wife that $24 was a great deal for a pair of the plaid woolrich pants. That was in Nov 1977, 3 months after we moved here to Pine Grove. I bought my 1st and only woolrich coat in 1968, after I came out of the service. I still have both, and also have my older brothers coat and pants from yesteryear. Haven't worn mine since the cammy phase hit in the 90's. Just might pull the old coat out and try it in the woods this week, not sure if it will fit me anymore. Just for $%#ts and giggles.
Drinks on the snake.

Hey Snake, Happy Belated Birthday.

I love wool for hunting. I can't remember the time frame for sure, but it was somewhere around 77, maybe a year earlier that I got my own Woolrich pants. Before that, I was wearing the ones that belonged to my Grandfather. They were so old, the bottom of the legs had LACES, not the elastic cuff. I think they are still in my mom's cedar chest. He was a small man so they worked fine for a youngster like me at the time. I never had my own Woolrich plaid coat (orange laws in effect when I started hunting) but I wore my Dad's sometimes outside of deer season.

Howdy Gents,
I just dropped in to let you know I am still alive. After seeing 10 different Doctors in 2011, I am not getting relief from my headachs. I am supposed to go to another Doc on Feb. 13, 2012 at the headach center in Pittsburgh. My Neurologist seems to thing it has something to do with the bulged disc in my neck. I am thinking the same thing. I haven't been getting good sleep as of late because I wake up with a headach in the middle of the night and going back to sleep sometimes is impossible.

I am still working for the moment and hope to continue to do so but I have to wait to see what they say.

It has been a mild winter so the labors of shoveling snow has been easy on me. I had the good fortune of a friend giving me some venny for the freezer since I was not able to do much hunting.

Hope you all are doing well, and by the way Grice Gun Shop is having their shooters Sale on Jan. 27,28,29. I got their flyer in the mail last week and the prices aren't too bad so I guess i will stock up on some stuff.

Have a cold one on me tonight.

A round of bourbon for everyone in memory of Joe Paterno. I met him at a fundraising event a few years back. My wife and I, along with our friends Steve and Maria were at the front of the bar line when someone taps me on the shoulder and says, " Can I cut in and get a drink?" I turned around and there stood Joe. We shook hands and chatted for a few moments while he got a double bourbon and then he headed off to sign autographs.

The funny part of the story is that we had asked Steve's parents to go also, as they were huge PSU fans. They declined, figuring we would be off in the peanut gallery somewhere and only see Paterno on a TV screen as he spoke.

RIP Joe,

Dale

Welcome back shovel, glad to see you're still kickin. Hope you get that medical problem fixed real soon.
dk, cool story about Joe Pa. Dam shame what that Board of Trustees did to him. They should have left him retire after the season, with some dignity he so surely deserved. He was an ICON.
Been having puter problems last few weeks. Couldn't get on this site. Puter runs slow, freezes up..... etc. Guess I'll try PCmatic or some other virus remover. Any suggestions??
Tanx for the bourbon, I'll buy next round.

Snake,

What I do was went to Dell and used thier goToAssistant. They told me to watch for spyware that can drag the puter down as well as, cleaning the cashe' out . It took me about two weeks to get everything cleaned out but I am back up to speed. The only draw back to using Dell's Tech support is that it cost me $136.85 to get it done. Right now I think it was money well spent.

I go next Monday to see the headache Dr. and me and the misses are spending the night Sunday in inner city Pitt. ( Oakland).... I wanna take my derringer along but mom say NO WAY!!!!! you'll get us both shot ..... I am sneeking it along anyway, unless she want to stick her hand in my pocket I think it will make it just fine.

Dale,
The only time I met JoePa was in 1988 when I was landscaping AQUA PENN's building and Joe came out to offer us working men a bottle of water. We shook hands and thanked him and went back to work.

Wish me luck guys cause I am so looking forward to building my gun range.

Shovel, here's what I think is a scam. I tried a site called PC Cleaner Pro. and downloaded and ran their diagnostic, which showed over 1800 errors. Now, for $39.95 less a $10 coupon, they will fix all for $29.95. So, I decided to go for it, but when I was going through the billing process......... I got a prompt that automatically took me into a Microsoft Tech Support office ( probably in India or where ever). Had an engineer tell me the PC Cleaner Pro could not fix the errors...... only he could because Microsoft designed the system. Total cost would be $250.00 per year or $500/ 3yr for spyware removal and protection. I told him to jam it and go suck on an egg.
Last year when I had Norton 360 5.0 installed, the tech also installed a cleaner program called CCleaner ( the icon is a letter C and a paint brush). Thought I'd run it , just for s ts and giggles, but when I went to run it I got a prompt to update to a newer and stronger version, did that, then ran it. HOLY CACTUS Batman, the ' puter is running fine. Don't know for how long, but I'm thrilled.
Not sure if your(next monday) was yesterday or next monday. If it was yesterday I sure hope you had good news from the doc, if it;s next week.... GOOD LUCK.

Hi Snake. Just checking in with my three month visit. LOL I have a local 'puter tech who will crash the entire thing if necessary, remove all infections and give you back a clean 'puter and usually only charges $50 I have all the free versions of Avast anti-virus, malwarebytes, and Super anti-spyware, and by running them once a week, I keep my puter clean.
Hey,, heard from our little lost buddy recently?

Sup gully? ' puter is still running like new....keep fingers and toes crossed. I was about to drop it off at Staples and let them clean it, but seems like that program Norton installed on my machine did the job. This is like heaven compared to how slow and erratic is was the last few weeks. Sure hope it lasts.
Not sure what to think about our lost buddy. Navy intel is spooky. Maybe this spring when I'm up at camp I'll stop at his mom's place and ask her about him.
Drinks on the snake tonight.

How you be skwirl? Glad you stopped in. I'll be sure and let you know when I'll be up camp for the Turk hunt this year. We are planning to remodel the bathroom in the camp this spring. The work party is not scheduled yet, but I'll be sure and let you know. Most of the guys still work and willl go home sun...... but the snake can stay all week to B/S with you. I'm figuring it will take more than a weekend for that job anyway.
I think the only word you'll hear from our little buddy will have to come by "camel express", or a satellite phone. Hope he shows up soon.
Tanx for the drink........ Now go stick a bolt behind the shoulder of Porky Pig. Good luck on sat. Save a hunk of sausage for supper at camp. %&$#, now I'm hungry.
