Glad you liked it G8. Sorry you had to eat "soft" food, lol. Poor thing. I felt sorry for you so I fixed up another batch o' goodies! For tonights supper, we're haven- Smoked wild boar w/stuffed portabella mushrooms and garlic mashed taters, sugar snap peas w/baby carrots and a chef salad and yeast rolls. For dessert, I fixed banana cream pie and a chocolate pudding cake. Here's the recipe for the stuffed portabella's: 1 cup chopped onion 1 10oz. package chopped, frozen spinach, thawed & squeeze dry 4 oz. feta cheese, crumbled ( about 3/4 cup) 4 oz. cream cheese, room temp. 1/4 tsp dried, crushed red pepper mushroom caps about 1 1/2 in. in diameter Preheat oven 375. Cook bacon until crisp on stove top. Crumble bacon when done. Save about 1/4 cup plus 2 tsp of drip'ns. Heat 2 tsp of bacon fat over med heat. Add onion & saut'e until tender. Put in med bowl and cool. Mix in bacon, spinach, feta, cream cheese and red pepper. Season w/salt and pepper to taste. Line 2 large bake'n sheets w/foil. take mushrooms and reserved 1/4 cup bacon fat in large bowl to coat. Sprinkle mushrooms w/salt & pepper. Place mushrooms round side down on bake'n sheet. Bake mushrooms until centers fill w/liquid (approx 25 min.) Turn mushrooms over. Bake until brown & liquid evaporates. (about 29 min. again) Turn mushrooms over again. Spoon 1 heap'n tsp of mixture into mushroom cavity. Bake at 375 for about 10 min. Let cool a little then enjoy! I don't know about the rest of you but after all the chef'n I've done, I aquired a mighty thirst! I'm grab'n a couple cold frosty ones and head'n for the back porch to watch the sun set and the birds go to bed. Catch y'all later. |

Grizzly - put your feet up here on the ottoman and put your head back and drink this ice cold beer. Hey all - I just posted bale for Grizzly and brought him back from the Federal Pen. holding station....boy it was rough - they were just getting ready to serve steak and lobster and champagne' to everyone at the Pen. THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH OUR GOVERNMENT! Sounds like a new movie "All the President's Tree!" Grizzly what provoked you to such a stunt? Oh you did it for Rocky - well I never heard of such a sweet jesture....and Rocky is brought to tears by your kindness. Shots of Bailey's Irish Cream round the house and a toast to Grizzly for his adventure of cutting the Big azz tree down off the President's lawn =) Now let's see - lets have some rawhack and some fresh shucked oysters - we'll start bringing in the New Year early today.....later on G8RHED and I are gonna' cook up some black eyed peas, cornbread, and some turnip greens and pork. First let me open myself a Guiness. From February thru September, we hold our breaths - waiting - waiting for the "signs of the season"...and then they begin to show - The air crisps up, leaves change.....Then......Quiet as a whisper, "It Is Time To Hunt!" |

Front door squeaks open. {{Sniff.....Sniff....Snifff}} Do I smell a Guiness? Hey Kimmy dear, you got an extra one somewhere. I could sure go for one of those. Now what was all this nonsence bout Grizzly being arrested for chopping wood? I sure hope it was all a big misunderstandn'. At least we got some left overs. A dozen long stemed "guy" flowers = 12 pack of longneck beers.
Hunting and fishing stories in progress. Boots may be required. |

A figure looms on the horizon...he make his way to the front door, the fimiluarity of the place hastens distant memories...it has been a long time sense this fellow crossed that threshhold...the bar, apperently empty, looks some what different and strange, yet the flames from the logs in the grand old fireplace makes it all seem the same...he crosses to the bar runs his hands over the smoot wood and then slips around the end, reaches beneth the sink enclosure, finds the li'l trap door and opens it, the aroma of fine tobaco reaches his nose, he reaches in and pulls out 2 fine cigars, moves a bottle or 2 from the front of the bar shelf and finds a dusty bottle of Grandma's Wildroot Brandy...with a last look around he crosses to the back door and slips silently in to the darkness... |

He deserves it! Besides, the "moonshine" truck is deliver'n more tonight so we'll be well stocked again. I'll be sure we get more than we need of wildroot brandy! Well, since no ones here, I'll just leave out some cheese spread, smoked bacon flavored and some club crackers for the game. So far, it's GB 28, Seahawks 17 at halftime. Come on Seahawks! Well, I'm grab'n a tall boy and bottle of Wild Turkey and watch the second half. Catch y'all later!

Ed, Who was that shadowy figure? Could it be our ole bud Two Tales? That rascal done slipped up on us while we were out. He ain't forgot where them stogies was though did he? Well I'll restock the secret box and I see you got another bottle of Wild Root in case Ralph err.... I mean "the shadow" returns. I recall he likes a good brandy also, so I'll dust off a bottle and leave it out on the table by the fireplace for him. Where's Miss Pam and GLW? I took all the Christmas stuff down except for the tree. Couldn't move that giant thing by myself. Besides, Rocky's done built a dadgum mansion in it. GLW musta helped him hook up cable TV!!! He was watching the football highlights on his own little TV up in the tree!!! Mike Gessner

Here I is!!! LOL!!!!! That cable wasn't cheap either! Danged rat had to have High Definition!! He didn't want to miss the Giants game!!!! Heck, Two tales is probably up shooting red stags in Maine right about now! I wouldn't mind one myself! Well, what in tarnation are we gonna do about this huge tree with the condo in it? I would hate to tear down such a great work of art? Instead of tearing it down, maybe we could move it outside, plant it in the yard and keep that rat from living in the lodge and stealing booze while we are away? Maybe he would meet a nice neighbor squirrel and start a family? Holy crap! What am I saying!!!!!!! One holy of terror tree rat is enough!!!! I say put that boy in the military, maybe that will teach him some discipline! Of course they just might might teach him to fly low ground support combat missions so that might just sneak up and bite us in the ass! Ok I'm confused, I need a drink! Make it a double!!!!!!!!!! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Oh well, I'll refill the mixed nuts bowl on the bar for the furball. Guess I'll put a couple more logs on the fire and warm up a spell. Think I'll pour a stiff shot of good sippin' bourbon to watch the fire with Maybe someone will stop by for drink after while so I'll leave the bottle out Mike Gessner Life Member NAHC NRA Camo Coalition of Georgia |

Silence cuts through the night, the gentel breeze whispering down off the mouutain is the only sound one can hear...the stars appear so close that you can almost touch them...the moon, now heading for it's dieing turn, is bright lighting the paths, known only by a few, in a fuzzy milky glow...through this eerie glow comes the handsom stranger. without a sound, like a cat he moves through the heavy wooden door and makes his way to the long polished slab of wood were so many folks have stood and wondered at the mistery of this man...he moves with the ease of long memories to the back of the bar, reaches below finds the hinden stash of cigars draws out two and then looks for a bottle of "Wild Root Brandy" he see several were there had only been one..as he selects one from the back he thinks to himself "Ed, you ol' chicken checker, you are my friend" he smiles as he looks around and makes his departure through the back door and heads to his spot in the woods...as the ghost of his 3 legged dog joins him, he fades into the night like a shadowy spirit. |

As time passes, one may wonder; what have I done?, who am I?, and what could I have done better?..is life what we make of it? or is it a predestined plan set in motion millions, yet billions, of years ago? what is reality and what is imagination? are we supposed to know or even try and figure it out? I don't often ponder these points and when I do, I take solice in the night...for the night is my friend. In darkness lies the unknown and this is what most fear, not I, I find it interesting and welcoming, calling me, wispering my name, begging me to investigate the shadows...as do I find all things in nature interesting...I feel the caresses of of the wind, and the cleansing of the rain and snow. I smell life in the soil and hear the heart beat of the world...these things I find in the night amongst the darkness and the shadows hidden away from the ravages and riotious doings of man...so I go tonight into the darkness, to do as my forefathers did from the brging of time, and burn the leaves to carry prayers upon the smoke and make offerings to the moon, sun, wind and soil so that my soul will be complete...to my friends; I bid you this advise "listen to the night" for she has many things to say and so few that will hear her... from a brotherhood long forgotten, Two Tales. |

Wow! Look at this place. It's a virtual ghost town! Surprised the town board hasn't boarded up the joint! I'll just grab the key from under the mat and have a sneak peek at what the innerds look like. As I open the creaking door, bats come flying out, the mice go run'n helter skelter and the cobwebs and spiderwebs sway with the breeze from the open door! I head straight for Libby's closet. After I dust her off, I put in some fresh batteries and off she goes to the kitchen. I dust and polish the bar and.........................."What in the H E double hockey sticks is goin on in the kitchen! Pots and pans fly'n ever where! LIBBY! Have you gone nuts?! Actually she has! She's loosing her elbow bolts and her fingers are coming off! Better get the oil can and craftsmans tools out. After a quick fix on Libby, she's hum'n right along! This joint will be up a run' in short order! Now that the place is ready for customers again, I reckon I'll put up a flashy sign out front that declares this place open....................................... "I declare that this here joint is open for business once again! So drag your sorry azz's back in here! The food is great, the drink plentiful, and the pole girls are back! So take off your shoes and pull up a stump! It's go'in to be a wild ride!!! Oh yeah! The drinks are on the house for this here re-opener!" There; that ought to do it! If'n someone can't read a 40 ft x 40 ft flashy sign, they need bigger glass's! I'll just step behind the bar, put the apron on and Libby the Liberal back in the closet and wait fer someone to come stroll'n in! I better fill the hume.......the humm........hughe..................the blasted cigar box back up before TT's comes in. The wildroot is stocked up also! Oops! Better get the grub and the silver on the table before everone comes a stroll'n in! Man that smells good! Think I'll grab me a platter of biscuit n gravy, wild boar sausage, grits, mater and home fries, bacon, eggs over easy and Texas toast with marmalade! After a meal like this, I won't be able to eat for........................at least another hour! Click here to add these cool Smileys to your emails for FREE! |

In the light of the nearly full moon, the quite old building stood casting it's shadow right to the edges of blackness. The path leading to the once grand doors is choaked and littered with dead and dying weeds...the old rocking chair upon the wide poarch, shows the year of neglect with it's tattered tapastry hanging in shreds...dry leaves dance in the slight breeze like fairies on a moonbeam...that heavy oaken door stands slightly ajar...tempting those who venture near to enter but yet forbidding and cold, making one hesitate...swinging the door wide one sees the vast open room where voices full of cheer and laughter once rang out,,,the glow of the moon shining through the dirty smoke stained glass of the sky light gives the room an errie presence..cold now is the masive hearth that not long ago brought forth warmth and security...silently the shadows move to a fro across the hard plane of the floor..yet echo each step you take, what ghosts walk these floors? One could imagine that they are skirting the ragged rim of reality once inside...It's hard to believe that just short of a year could make a place feel so alone and forgotten...Fairwell my old friend it is better I remember you in the light of day.... How ya'll doing,
I aint been on the boards to much lately....been busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest...so I'll fill ya'll in on what I've been doing for the past 6 months...back in March I slipped by this ol' place..and it nearly busted my heart strings...I stayed away for a short time then slipped back up the hill to just remember ol' friends...and maybe see if there was any "wild root" left..well the mice done got the cigars and vandles busted up the booze and the mirror...so I decided I would fix the ol' Place up and see if it would turn a bit better than it has in the last year and a half...the junks been removed the yards have been redone the floors are polished (thanks Libby) the bar brass is spit shined...7 coats of spar has got that old mahogany looking rich and alive...the bar is stocked the stoves are ready for use the "Pit" is de-funked (had to chase 50 or so of them flying furball out of the flue)...the mounts have all been refurbed as was the hot tub and pool..so I think this is about it...what I'm tring to say is....watch for the Super Grand Re-Opening, coming to a thread near you very soon... |
