Cent, Pyke and Greybeard are used to this kind of weather! Maybe they will come down and pressure wash for you! Maybe they could even round up MIA YH and bring him down to roof for you!

Well, as cold as it was this week they did not complete the roof, but did start at least.  The water has not been turned on, but it appears the water pipe is mostly covered now.  The door frames have been built and some doors are stacked in the garage.  The 3 big windows in the den have been installed finally.  It is supposed to get up into the 40s and 50s this week some so they should finish the roof finally.  The metal is all there so it appears that they can do it quickly once they can get dry somewhat warm weather a day or two.

Hey, looking good.  those guys can put a metal roof on in no time given the right weather.

Was over at a friend's place (log cabin ) last night.  made me wish I would have built one here instead of this dump.  oh well too late now.

Like the windows in the peak.

Talked to my builder at Church today.  He said they did power the pump, but could not cover the pipe fast enough becaues the bobcat loaded in the front with gravel and headed down hill was sliding in the ice and mud.  Plus, the water pipe at the pump froze and broke as they were working on the pump.  So they only powered the pump and have to finish this week as it gets warmer.

Shi, place looks great.  coming along nicely.  don't worry about the chimney having wood on the ouside.  the inside is made of wood.  so would have to burn thru that before it got to the wood on the outside.  probably not what you wanted to hear about a log house.  as far as the fiberglass doors.  they do have a very nice finish.  and not nearly as heavy as full wood doors.  seem to be the thing now for noth exterior and interior doors.  couldn't get the last pictures to come up either.  have to wait til the next set to see the roof color.  what are the red and blue lines?  water lines?  never seen non copper lines used like that.

Yeah, the red and blue are some sort of plastic water pipe (hot and cold) and are flexible so they bend into corners without joints.  The roof is dark green to go nicely with the wood-color of the logs.  The builder called this morning and said the roof is almost finished today and he was on his way to my parents' house to get the stove.  My mom is afte rme to hurry up and get my deer head out of her house which I've been promising I'd do as soon as I could get a house made for it.  Moms just don't understand.

Went up there today to check the progress.  The green roof looks great, what they have done at least.  They appear about 1/2 way done with it.  It looks like they have the hardest parts dones, like the dormers and valleys and only the largest flat areas need finishing.  They filled in the water trench completely and the electricians appears finished.  The electrical trench from the top pole to the house is dug so this week it looks like I will finally have the wire run to the electrical box in the basement.  No wires will be above ground from the top pole to the house.  The water pump is powered now and the pipe is charged.  The doors have been installed as well.  They got a wood front door with a window in it.  I'd wanted a soldi wood door or one with only a top window, but costs caught up with us so we went with a larger window and pine wood like we have on the side porch.  That is fine I suppose.  I think from inside it allows more light into the dining area this way, and I don't really need to worry that much about break-ins up there so the solid door is not that big a deal.  The large great room windows have already claimed the life of an unsuspecting robin which I found crumpled on the ground beneath them.   I have pics but the site is not allowing me to load them right now.  I'll add them later.

OK, I have attempted daily for a week to add pictures and keep getting an error, but then the front picture took twice after I got the error message.  Wierd, but I'll try the rest again even though it still gives me the error and see what eventually takes - if anything.

I'll try to post again and see how it goes.  I went out there today and the roofers were still working.  They said that the weather has messed up their schedule but today and tomorrow are nice looking so they are working the weekend.  They said that after tomorrow they should have only a day or two in finish trimming to tidy up.  Going to turn cold again Monday through about Wednesday here.

Could not look at the pics, something about page not found comes up.

But sounds like you are progressing nicely.  You will have one great place there to live and hunt and just watch the wildlife around you.  I enjoy that part of this place a lot.  Like to look over the fields and go thru the woods etc to see what is new or what tracks are left..

And you will have a zillion projects to keep you busy after you move in.

My how times do change.  The "Project" as my house was termed in this e-mail journal starting back in March '08 is now officially up for sale.  The pics have all been removed from the posts for some reason, time I guess.  It was a monumental project that ended up over $100,000 OVER budget and took longer than we anticipated and has been a lifestyle ever since requiring weekly maintenance.  The joys and labor of a real log house are unique I learned.  Frankly I'd stay but marital circumstances have changed.  The divorce is my new "project."

We have notified a local big-time property owner, the man that owns a lot of the surrounding lands of the intent to sale and are asking $400,000 which will allow us wiggle room.  We need $375,000 to break even on it and the 30 acres.  He has been calling other contacts and today came up and looked at it with another neighbor.  They see it as rental investment I think.  You could easily transform it into a vacation rental and pull $2,000/wk from it.  It requires a LOT of work to get to that point though.  Before I list it with a general realtor I will have to literally dump probably 10 loads of gravel and have it grated and compated and then PRAY for no rain until it sells.  The original driveway is wrecked from traffic and rain.  There is nothing even left to shovel or rake in many areas.  It is time to re-stain the logs and I am hoping to just be able to touch it up around windows where it is noticeable but up close you can see gray wood in spots.  Chinking has to be touched up as well.  A constant leak issue on the back wall with the big windows has discolored the hardwood floors back there.  It is a $3000/month ordeal that just taps us out when on top of other loans we are still dealing with that were incurred during building as well as the kids' tuitions.  We are unwilling to pull the kids out or private school and stick them into the government school.  But, we have been able to make all the payments it is just no fun at all.

The real issue though is that after 22 yrs, I am calling it quits in the marriage, so we have to sell and split up.  Never in a million yrs saw myself doing it, but I realized this past year that neither of us had been happy for a very long time and as such made the kids unhappy a lot of times by snapping at them out of unhappy frustration.  She and I have nothing in common or holding us together besides the marriage license, kids and mountains of debt.  I decided late last year that I'd had enough.  It took a wonderful woman friend to make me realize how miserable I was and show me that there can be something better.  For the past month I have been in daily 'heck' it seems dealing with the fall-out of telling my wife I wanted to separate then actually briefly doing so only to be back in the house now but resigned between us both now and all family members that divorce is coming.  She has a lawyer, I have a lawyer, and the paperwork is being pushed now.  I misjudged my wife though.  I had determined that she was as irritated and through with me as I had been of her and that when i said I wanted to separate she would just say "fine."  Instead she briefly sunk her claws in and fought it.  Finally I told her I have met someone that I have fallen in love with.  She knew already and knew who somehow (women do have intuitions) and we fought bitterly for 2 weeks over that.  This past week however it has all settled down into us just agreeing to get on with it and have it done by July.

I've been unable or just uninterested in the bulletin board since this past Nov.  Heck, I was so depressed I let deer walk past me on my property this past year just because I was unwilling to add work to my life by pulling the trigger.  I had my Win. '94 cocked and aimed on a doe one evening and my finger was on the trigger and I could not get my finger to twitch even for what seemed like an eternity.  It was like my finger was disconnected from my brain.  The doe walked out of sight and I relaxed and started tearing up.  When I went back to my house I looked up into the lit up A-frame windows, glowing golden from all the wood inside and the lit 16' cedar Christmas tree and I marveled at how pretty it was - and I hated it!  I have come to hate it not because of it but because it represents to me a huge anchor to a loveless marriage.  I came to realize during my bear hunt while talking to my good friend nightly around the fire that you can have a mansion on a hill and if you do not love the person in it it might as well be a shack in a swamp.  And, you can have a shack in a swamp and if you love the person in it it can seem like you rmansion on a hill.  So, the process is in motion and anyone wanting a $400,000 3,000 sq/ft real dovetail log house on top of a rattler and thorn infested 30 acre hill, give me a shout!

Shi, my friend, my buddy, I stayed for 23 miserable years in my first marriage because of social mores....I too know miserable. The only good thing that came from that marriage was two wonderful sons. I have no clue how they turned out as good as they have based on what was going on at home in front of them!
I feel for you, Bro, it took me two years to get my head straight to to stand up to both family's tradition of "you made your bed, lie in it" My dear mother never forgave me but it had to happen or I would have killed her or myself!
I left with nothing but the old truck, my clothes, a cuppla pieces of furniture, my guns and protection of my retirement.
Good luck Brother! I know you well enought to know the decision was not easy.

Thanks Tom, and thanks for the call. Your wisdom literally came in handy an hr later last night when she picked a fight again. She told me "everyone says you are awlking away from your responsibilities!" I brought your words right up and told her my responsibility is to make sure my kids grow up in a loving home and know they are loved and I am finally taking responsibility and doing it because they can't have that as long as we remain together. It shut her up. She saw things differently than she'd expected and calmed down an escalating situation. The lady I am absolutely in love with and I are not active in a relationship other than we talk through e-mail and texts almost constantly and see eachother in very public settings from time to time. We are 200+/- miles apart with separate lives so nothing is happening other than we have become very dear friends (and joke and flirt a lot) but I have every intention of dating her.;-) It'd mean acquiring 2 more kids of the exact ages of my own though! :-()
