Just came in ..Nature ya know ....and to warm up I hit a stand on the edge of our gully...facing ESE...to give me shots but keep the wind to my back a bit....It really wasn't bad but I left my seat at home and the cold metal mesh was a tad unpleasant....after settling in I had an hour before good shooting light...and heard either raccoons or deer move through to my left and just as good light arrived I heard the blowing of the deer I set up for.....I'd seen flash lights on the property line area....so I think that's what busted them ....at 10 am I finally couldn't tune out nature ...so I got down and still hunted over to where the deer blew and the lights where.....saw nothing and snuck back out...I used my range finder to still hunt and WOW....clear optics and great pre-ranging the stand area so I know whats what if one sneaks in on me...great investment...well fed relaxed and ready to hit the woods in an hour....Good Luck |

Thanks WTL...had a lot of sightings and some close (dark) encounters and one doe in range this am ...but she was last years fawn and way too spooky so I passed......I got out early and came home early to mow the trails...and clean the barn for the hay delivery tonite...so goats are all set and have clean bedding and fresh hay....I dug the trenches for my garlic bulbs and they will go in tomorrow afternoon.....I have just a few side trai9ls to Dr the weeds off...and my walks in will be quiet....there were deer blowing in the distance all around me this am...Told Mr.B ..I don't think anyone works on this hill The deer are all so spooky now.....Good luck to you as well |

Hope to get out there by the 30th. They let me get rid of the finger guard on Friday, just need to get some shooting practice in. Been working the finger, after 8 weeks in it's little solid (couldn't move it) cocoon need to exercise it and loosen up the tendons/ligaments. Keep me posted on how you're making out in the woods. |

Badger, keep trying , and telling us about it. Makes us long for the woods and a little time to daydream at work. Good luck WTL, keep working and hope it stretches nicely. Good Luck all, Bob |

That's it...I'm chucking the no scent ...camo....stealth mode crap and
going hunting with my DR mower!!....Holy kabowlly! ...I just Came 1ft
from being jumped on by a really big doe
.....I was DRing the trails....before the rain and snow that's
due....and coming back through.... on the big circle around the property
I was making.... this doe jumps out of the brush and over the DR
mower.....lands about 10ft away and stands there looking over her back
at me...I hesitated for just a moment and kept right on mowing
....walking past her...I then looked back and there she still stood
watching me...Well I now know what time they are moving " title="Wink" class="smiley" border="0"> This a.m. I had 2 doe and 4 fawn walk under the stand just before shooting light... Yesterday I past on a beautiful silver doe ...she and 5 others and some fawn came in just before the end and she was broad side for several minutes 20yrds out....but on my wrong side and at full alert...which got her fawn stomping and the others were in range but in the woods...then the wind came up and her noise went up and she turned and looked straight at me....no snorting or running but a tail flick and stiff walk away that ended my days hunt..... |

Badger, knew that house looked cozy, but getting them to bed right underneath - guess even the animals want dibs on it! Also amazing how they seem to know when you dont have a weapon in your hand. I had a picture of a bunch of bucks lying under a trampoline in someones yard, but couldnt get it to post. Good Luck Bob |

Cool pic, Badger1! Sorry you couldn't find your deer, MikeV...that really sucks...Did you try "Deer Search??" They might've been able to help. Too late for the 8, but maybe not for finding the doe....just a thought... |

WTL ...Lol...I swear if her fur had been darker...I might have been able to fling that #60 DR at her and hit her before she fully stopped!...Dang I was looking down at the mower and first thought was bear...fear alone woulda giving me the strength but her wth belly fur went flying by my face..... Thanks JB...Today I passed on a 10yrd shot on a 4pt...I ...first time ever...was able to call him in from 60 yrds out chasing a doe...great morning...but well natures call With the heat rolling in it will have to be a very big doe or a really nice buck for me to take it...Hate dealing with flys There is a bi boy out there....I heard his long guttural grunt before first light this a.m.....and when I was calling to the 4pt I heard a low grunt down the him....before leaving I heard it again but going away from me....I'm sure he was head for the swamp....I'll be waiting this evening when he come back out |

Glad you found your deer. Well, yesterday, I did the samething. Hit a 6 pointer & couldn't find him. I think I used the wrong pin & hit him high. Didn't find 1st blood for like 50 yards, then dime size only. Tracked him to the edge of the thick stuff & swamp, couldn't find anymore blood, but did concentric search, hopefully find him or better blood. No luck....never found the arrow either. Came out around lunch, called Deer Search, but they didn't have anyone available. Shot my bow at 20 yards using 30 yard pin to get a better idea where I hit. Ended up high, below the spine. Went back and searched again, but no luck. Still feel like crap about screwing up the shot & not being able to find him. |

Well I blew it tonight....hunted the top plot and just as the sun sat on
the ridge deer started coming in ...a doe came in and just as she
started crossing 18 yrds in front of me another came in from the side
and then the low grunt of a buck...but by then I had tried to pull back
my bow ...to take the doe....Well dang!...that wasn't happening ...I
know I'd gotten chilled for the wind was whipping and the temps dropped
into the 30's...I had started to shiver before they arrived...but it
felt like I was trying to pull 100#'s not 51....I settled down and the
buck came in and ran past me chasing the doe 15 yrds ...but
then she circled leaving him 70 yrds out but came right back ...at
25yrds I started to draw again and OMG It was nearly impossible!!...by
the time I did she'd stepped behind a pine and there I stood...thumb
locked behind my ear and it starting to get pretty dark...she finally
stepped out and I think I just rushed the shot...because I saw her drop
and my arrow sailed over her back ...into the turnips....she went
5yrds...then turned and came back...I actually knocked an arrow...but
knew it was too late....she stood right where I shot and then circled
back out to the buck and way out in front of me in a semi circle taking
the very big 6-8 with her...then 3 more doe and a buck followed them and
a buck fawn and doe fawn came through....another night of sitting in
the stand until 7pm....I cant believe how sore my arm and neck are right
now...all that practice and this happens I still had a blast and now know the big boys are still out there and on there feet |

Sounds like everyone is having fun, that's great! Took a young doe on the 30th and have yet to see any bucks bigger than spikes. Food plots are getting hit, but visitation seems to be completely nocturnal. All the activity (and it is little) I've seen has been from my deep woods stands. I expect to see some good rut activity this weekend and hope to fill the buck tag. Should start seeing some transit bucks from other areas cruising for does on the ridge! |

Seems like this is the year of "almosts" and other miscues!!! I was in my tree stand on some new property I got permission for. About 3:55, a deer starts making its way toward my spot. Thought it was a doe, but, as it got closer, saw it was a spike. Figured I'd let him pass & just watch & se what he does. Watched him for about 15 minutes when a big ole Tom turkey flies across the road and lands in the trees near me. The spike ambles off and the Tom starts calling & gobbling as he heads up the hillside toward me. As he gets closer, I decide to get ready becuase I can se he has a nice long beard & this could b my 1st bow bird. The Tom sees me and changes direction but he'll still pass in front of me. As his head pops behind a tree, I start to draw my bow when THUNK!!! My cabel popped off the dang wheel!!! I was like what the......Say the least, I was pissed!! But then I calmed down and said it could've been a big buck instead! As the Tom headed up the hillside, a little faster now, I could've sworn his "putting" sounde more like laughter!!! |
