Ok, so I find a staging area between a bedding and corn field. I set up at 4 pm with my climber, at 5:45 I'm watching a squirrel eating acorns in a pine tree 10 yards from me. He is quite entertaining and helps pass the time. Suddenly he freaks out and scares the crap out of me in the process! A doe comes running in from behind the pine and I never saw her coming! She is at 10 yards! I slowly stand up while she is facing away from me. She hears me, turns and stares me down! She runs off about 40 yards and stops, ok, still in range. She is behind a tree and not really showing her vitals. She keeps staring at me and finally just rins off without a snort. I notice another deer coming from behind the pine tree, a 8 point! Not that I was already feeling like crap because I can't shoot a buck, another, bigger 8 point shows up! I have two bucks at 20 yards! I watched them till dark and had no choice but to let them know I was there and climb back down. They were looking for me because the doe had got them spooked a little, so they wouldn't leave. My luck sucks!

At least you saw something.  My brother and I went out yesterday a.m. and never saw a single snout, tail or rack.  Looks like they're moving late afternoon, which sucks for me weekdays due to what time I get home.

Hang in there all, its still early and just sitting in the woods beats all like GLW said ..nothing like watching the wildlife.. good luck and keep at it

any day in the woods beats a day at work (or in the desert!)

Went out today, yearling come in in at a bit before 8am then i saw a nice doe and a tiny fawn no way these were twins, well I had the doe at 22 yards she was mine.then she started to groom the little guy so I had to put my bow down.No way could I shoot her with such a young one at her side, the bigger fawn was just not big enough for my first archery deer so I watched them for a while and they all left.I well be out next weekend maybe it well happen for me then.Time for a cold one and some football.  Drink up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude, you are good folk in my book! I will have to meet you some day and shake your hand! You will be paid back two fold for that decision alone! Good choice! Either way, you are a winner?

Hope all of you south of us are doing well...She did as I thought and stayed fairly south of us ...high winds and pouring rain...no outages....no flooding...at our place...I feel bad for ppl below us on the hill...for the culvert in drive was running so hard it went over the drive as well and we thought we'd be stuck this a.m. with no drive....phewww lucked out on that one......Too windy to feel safe in woods or even check for tree damage.....we had so much rain before the storm hit...don't trust the trees stability

hope you all made out well- only alot of wind and a lost christmas tree at home- so no complaints here. Guess most are hunting-- come on i want to hear the stories- two of are sitting talking stories constantly because we aren't going to make this seaason- so tell me some tales (please) : )
Just read some good recipes and am really looking forward to the new year - hunting, wild game on the menus and of course some light refreshment
Good Luck all

Looks like the storm is turning away! Yea!

I missed a doe this morning, she totally took a different trail and came in beside me where I don't have any shooting lanes cut. I think I hit a twig, didn't have much of a window? But, it was a clean miss. A spike was right after her! He turned after I shot and walked within 10 yards of me! I can't shoot a buck, this is my luck.

How come it happens that way-- who told him you didnt have a buck tag? Somehow they get the details we try to keep away. Argh ...how do they know?
