No excuse for that kind of stupidity.

I would guess they cahrged him.

Too bad,  just no sense to that kind of thing happening.

it has been over a year sense i lost my brother. i was talking to a friend the other day about him and remembered how he was always thinking about being safe while out hunting. always know where you are shooting. he would drve you crazy, always asking "did you unload your gun before you put it in your case. better be sure." this year deer hunting without him was not the same... but i caught myself thinking before i headed home"did i unload my gun .... well i had. so i thought i would pass this on...hopeing everybody has a safe 2010 hunting season ..... happy new year

Yea, loosing a hunting partner like that can cause memories to pop up when hunting. But sounds like he left a "safety impression" on you so you have something to remember him by that is important. Glad they got the guy and did something to him. Very stupid thing to do and he had no business in the woods. Basic hunting safety is not to shoot unless you can see the target and what is behind it.

My brother and I were once pinned down in a cedar swamp for 15 minutes by a guy.  Every time we moved, he fired a couple rounds.  When we were able to get out and confront him, he said he was sound shootin.  Said he sound hunted for a lot of years.  He was amased that it was hunters he was shooting at. Said he had never seen hunters in the swamp before. The guy was also drunk.  We got hold of the CO and the guy was brought in and charged with reckless endangerment with a firearm and being drunk.  Turned out the guy was also 100% color blind.  We were dressed in blaze orange from head to toe and he couldn't tell the color.

The guy was married, 3 kids, home owner.  Here is the real kicker.  He was also a County Commisioner.

booze, firearms, and cars etc do not mix in any situation. I am all for having a belt after the hunt and guns are in the rack but not during or before. Common sense but some folks think they are superman and can handle it.

Agree with you 100% TW.  Alcohol and guns don't mix.  Have your spirits after the day is over or not at all.  My brother did fire one shot towards the guy.  Took out about a 8 inch piece of a tree right above his head.  SOB ducked down and fired off another round in our direction.  We ended up crawling on our bellies till we had trees between him and us.  Then we got up and rushed him.  The thought of shooting him ran through our minds more than once when he was shooting at us.  Neither one of us could bring ourselves to do it though.

I would hope not, has not served enough time yet.
He needs to pay for his stupid mistake, just read an article on liine where this happened again to a guy not wearing blaze orange sneaking thru the underbrush and got shot but a deer hunter with a shotgun... Said he saw something move,,,, something, did not ID his target
