I went quail hunting this weekend. I went to Forest Green Shooting Preserve on Spotsylvania county540-582-2586. Quail won't be in for another two weeks but deer season rules around here. The preserve was great, and my new dog did a great job finding and locating all 12 birds.

No many quail around here anymore. Habitat, lack of crops etc I gues.
I go to SD to bird hunt in Oct usually, did not make it this year.

I'm in SE Montana. Lots of birds around, we had a great hatch this past spring, and lots of cover. When I was out this past Saturday, I jumped sharptails, pheasants, and hungarian partridge all in the same shelter belt along a wheat field. If I had a dog with me, I could have easily limited out on all three, but the cover is thick, and they are hard to flush.

Bird hunting is great and I am getting back in to it now that I can retire and work a bit less each day. I have a new puppy, a French Brittany, and my work cut out for me. Looking forward to it all!

In SD, we have 12 million pheasants and the population is still climbing. Turkeys are very abundant along the Missouri and White rivers in the west. Grouse and quail are still at good numbers as well. If you like waterfowl, then the east side of the state is also putting up record numbers. All we need is to get some of our CRP back and we'll be in great shape for all hunting. If you do make it down for a pheasant hunt, may I suggest a winter hunt. There is little competition for a place to hunt, the birds sit tight, and they are very concentrated. All you need to do is get a good dog or come up with a good strategy to corner them.

Yup, I love to hunt quail, turkey, and grouse. Not much else here in AZ, except dove, to hunt. I'd hunt dove, too, if I could find someone who wanted to eat them.
Our grouse season starts this coming Friday, can't hardly wait.
"But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee. And the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee. Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee, and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this? In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind."

Where do you live, Racine?

The duck shooting is just fine in Wisconsin.  Whether you're in the Northwest, along the river to the west, Northeast towards the U.P., or the Horicon Marsh Area.

It may not be Arkansas or South America, but it still beats most...

Quailhound, just saw this post and had to say hi.
SportyG, how you doing?

I was led to an area that has a lot of quail, not far from where I live. I hope to have a job, and try to get out there and hunt. Season for quail opens soon.

EdD270, I eat dove, and my brother lives in Tuscon. I hope to head out to AZ and do some wing shooting with you.

Love to bird hunt here in N.Y but pheasants are pretty much put and take. And when you gotta spend about $10 a bird you better make sure you take all you put!! My chocolate lab loves it also and is great. Usually if there is a bird around she will put it up. I feel bad for her though. we don't get to go that often and when she sees me get a gun out of the cabinet she pushes her way outside and goes and sits by the truck. Maybe after deer season we will get out again!!
IF IT WALKS FLIES AND HAS A SEASON, I HUNT IT!!!!

Was turkey hunting last couple weeks. Saw a bunch of pheasant roosters and hens. Here in ohio where i'm at in the middle of two wildlife areas that stock pheasants. We see them all over the place.
