I'm a wingshooter and love it. Trying to swap bird hunts but everyone on the swap pages want to swap big game hunts. Sure I go deer and pig hunting but my true love is for upland game behind good dogs. Am I in the wrong club? Anyone interested in hunting dove, Ca quail, or mountain quail in central California? Don't let our image fool you we still have great hunting. Limits of doves over good retrieving spaniels. Don't touch that briar flushing quail is the dogs job. Open to any good bird hunts. |

It seems there aren't any pheasants to hunt in Michigan. I have been raising and releasing birds for a few years now and we work dogs on game preserves but there aren't many out in the wild anymore. |

Same here pheasants rarer than hens teeth. Rarely see a grouse anymore. And doves aren't legal in NY. gutpile

Don't give up on the birds all they need is habitat. Brethren in Ca in the san jaquine valley pheasants were everywhere. A group with no dogs could limit out in an hour. Then farmers started leveling and putting marginal land into production. They started to mow and spray ditch banks and row crops gave way to orchards and vineyards. Now pheasants are only present in certain areas where farmers still till the land the old way. But some farmers are realalizing it and trying to leave edge cover traveling lanes and more spilled grain. They want them back as much as I do and just needed some help on how to benifit them. All this without crp, subsidies, or pheasants forever just a 23 year old kid with a dream of roosters and farmers with the same dream. |

Most birds in pa don't last too long. I go out almost every day when hey are in, and don't see many, much after november. Although the pa game comission is working with pheasants forever to build habitat, so maybe in a few years may be able to take you up on that, but until then its just exercise. |

Jg thanks for the response. I'd love to get after some of those beautiful birds before they're on the endangered species list. Haha. Valley quail starts 2nd weekend of October. When does your season start? After a few weeks I'm scared the quail won't hold to a point, but we could always drop my dogs. Any chukar around there? Keep in touch hopefully we can get together. |

Jarbo I'm interested. I love the comradery bird hunters share. Can't beat it. You'll never see friends having fun like a dove or pheasant hunt. In November the birds will be a bit flighty but we could mix quail and dove hunts. What are you most interested in hunting here? We also have an early mtn quail hunt when they seem to be numerous. In November everything will be open but the hunting will be a little harder. |

I have taken to hunting birds more in recent years don't get me wrong I still enjoy chasing after deer and hogs with anything I can lay my hands on Black powder, Recurve, rifle ,pistol ,my daughter even got me a spear for fathers day , but I got a springer spaniel a year ago and have taken to field and marsh after woodcock and quail where I can find them and thats the hardest part where I live. There used to be an abundance of here birds in S.C. but unless your willing to go to a managed game preserve quail and woodcock are few and far between but the dog and I still manage to find enough to make it fun and I think thats the best part of it all! |

Pheasants are few in Wisconsin...there used to be a lot from what I understand from Dad. Mostly all shooting preserve birds now. You can get some good grouse hunting up north though. I'm not too sure on the statuses of quail and Woodcock...but I don't jump too many when TRYING to flush wild pheasnts. More than likely we're going out to the Dakotas this fall to hunt pheasants. What a blast that is. Last time we shot 49 birds in 4 days. What fun! I love duck hunting too. But there aren't the ducks in Wisco anymore either. |

Heheh. You know, as much as I love to bust ducks, I can probably count on one hand the number of pretty good days I've had. I mean, I'm only 18, but it isn't easy shooting a limit many times. This coming December/January though, MIGHT possibly be going down to Arkansas. That would be a blast. No pun intended of course. |

I wouldn't be able to make it to CA this year but if you are interested in hunting some WIHA in Central Kansas let me know. I usually make several trips down there each year and have a little house that I rent. The hunting is great, you don't always kill a lot of pheasants but you always see a lot of birds and my dogs just get better each year. I have GSP's and a Welsh Springer Spaniel that I'm teaching to flush the birds the GSP's point. Let me know if you are interested in this fall. |

I love all types of wingshooting. But mostly I hunt Pheasant, Ruffed Grouse and some Quail. I just wish I could get a bird dog to hunt with, but for a number of reasons. I can't right now.
I used to hunt waterfowl a lot. Wish I could get back to that too. But I only have so much time for hunting each season so I have to decide each weekend what I'm gonna hunt. Often it's Pheasant or Deer that gets the nod.

Quailhound formerly rjones32. Airmedic, what dates are you thinking about. I would love to hunt Kansas. I have a few trips planned already, but if we can workout a date that would be awesome. As far as California your welcome to hunt with me any time you can make it, this year or any other time. |

most of the areas I hunt quail down here in socal have been burned out. It will be a couple more years before they make a come back. Out side of that eveyone hits the same areas hard unless you have private land to hunt.. |

Im a South Dakota born and bred. I have been hunting for the last 15 years all I hunt is upland. South Dakota is great for pheasant other upland such as grouse or praire chicken are common here. They mostly are in the central part of the state from the Nodak border to the neberaska border |
