I have been shooting my Ruger Mark III 22/45 for a while.  I have been hitting the target to the left of aiming point.  I adjusted the sight today and still hit to the left.  I switched from the right hand to the left hand.  I started hitting both sides and center of aiming point.

I am shooting with both eyes open.  I am putting post below center of impact.  I am right handed.  I might be left eye dominate.  I know without watching my technique you are limited in your advice.  Any suggestions would be helpful.

Hold out your index finger at arms length.

With both eyes open find a point in the distance in line with your finger.

Then cover one eye, then cover the other.

The eye that still remains "on target" is your dominate eye.

The rest is just a matter of practice.

left hits right handed shooter..to much finger..move your finger so there is less of it on the trigger...or you are torquing the the gun..hold it with a lighter grip...

First determine your eye dominance. The method SDOWLING mentioned above will work just fine. Just remember start with both eyes open and point at a distant object, then close one eye and see if you're still pointing at it. Once your eye dominance is determined, that should be the side you should shoot from. As TT mentioned, the problem could be in your trigger control or squeeze. Normally too little finger you'll have a tendency to push the gun to the opposite side and too much finger on the trigger will result in pulling the gun.
I would try shooting a five round group with just your dominate eye open and see how you do, then work on both eyes open.

Thanks

I've been left eye dominate(astigmatism in right eye) all my life and shoot right handed? Does limit me on distance but works just fine otherwise?

Some of the best handgun shooters I know are left eye dominant and shoot right handed. As with any shooting discipline it just takes practice.

Mark,

If you shoot right handed and do not want to change.

Start by wearing a pair of protective eye glasses with a Avery "label dot" (large) on the middle of the left lense.

BTW - still keep both eyes open.

OR................ you can close your left eye.

UPDATE:

Being right handed i had three options, Shoot left handed, twist my head, or shoot with one eye closed.  I chose to shoot left handed.  The Ruger is not designed for lefties.  It took time but I am now comfortable releasing the bolt and releasing the safety using just the left hand.  At 10 paces I can shoot clays single handed.   For left handed shoots, I aim dead center.  For right hand shots because of my left eye dominance, I aim shoot to the right side of the clay while twisting my head to the right.

Use the pad of your index finger to pull the trigger instead of near finger joint

Thrillseeker,

Yea, I found that out some where during the past year of shooting the gun.  For deer season I used a 1911.  I bought some snap cartridges to "fire" in it.  Without the bang you can really watch your follow through.

Mark, I'll just add my 2cts, I saw a video that really helped my handgun aiming. It described the sight picture as you have it now, front sight at the sixoclock. The video said to blur the rear sight and the target focusing clearly on the front sight. I tried it out and was really suprised how relaxing the sho{1}****  the bull, I think it gives the attention to the most important part of the shot.
