I have been to several outdoor sports stores and they have discounts at different times for veterans and when I go to pay for my item and I tell them I am a veteran, they ask for my card????? What am I missing? I know if you are on active duty or retired you get a ID but I have never got just a veteran card. I have used my DD214 but that is a pain to carry. Does anyone know of a card or something of this nature. |

Gotta do it through the VA if you want the vet card. Otherwise the AD or Ret. cards are the only way. |

You can also get the discount if you're a DoD civilian employee just by showing that ID...but it is good to know I can get a card that shows that I'm a vet also. |

I have my retirment DODcard, but i do have a friend that had a similar problem at lowes. they asked for a DOD card, which he obviously hasn't had in years. he did show him his VFW card and they stated that wasn't good enough. last i checked being a veteran was one of the major requirements for membership. someone needs to educate these great businesses that give back to veterans! the dd-214 is probably going to be your easiest way to prove vetran status, that is of course unless you get a business that doesn't have a clue what it is. |

Is this vet card the same as the VA medical card issued for health care, or is it a different card? I have my VA issued health care ID card. |

The VA Medical Card is all you should need. I've used mine at several locations as proof that I'm a Veteran. |

Just spent approximately $2000 on a bath room remodeling with Lowes. Showed them a copy of my DD-214 and they gave me a 10% discount on everything. |

If you use your DD214 just use a photo copier and scale it down to wallet size then have it laminated. Just make sure you black out your social. Thats what the people at my local Home Depot said to do if you dont have an actual ID card. |

ALL Veterans are eligible for care through the VA Medical Centers located throughout this great nation. Depending on your status, (non-service connected disability, service-connected disability with a rating of 0% or higher, no disability, etc), if you served, you're eligible. Depending on your status there may or may not be a co-pay per visit. The best thing I ever did after moving to Idaho was verify my eligibility at the VA Medical Center and started using them as my primary care provider. |

Mr. cbrown36, here in New Mexico the State Game and Fish Department issues out a green card for free hunting and fishing to every 100 percent disable Vet. Also, nationwide if you are 100 percent Disabled from injuries incurred during wartime (gunshot wounds, sharpnel wounds, injuries inquired in war time) you will recieve a Military ID Card, entitling you to benfits on Military Bases, Commisary, BX, etc. just like you were in the Military. Also your wife will get an ID Card to go on any Military Base across the Nation and around the World. I worked as a Social Worker at the Albuquerque VA Medical Ctr, till they deemed me Permanent, Total and Unemployable 100 percent for PTSD, Agent Orange, and other Disablilities acquired with my 3 years in Vietnam. A lot of Businesses offer Military Discounts when you show them your MILITARY ID. Home Depot, Lowes, Furr's Buffet, etc.. Hope this helps you out. |

As food for thought (literally), the Subway sandwich places also offer Veterans a 10% discount. I asked if they give Veterans a discount. They said, "Yes" and I showed them my VA Medical Card. They took off 10% before adding sales tax. |

Here is what I did after talking to a old vet at Home Depot selling heating systems and reading usarmyjustin . I took my DD-214 and made a copy with the SSN blacked out and shrunk it down to fit in my wallet. I have use it at Lowes, and Home Depot for discounts. I am not disabled or retired (even though I did 13 years) so I don't get a card that way. I have registered at the courthouse. |

It is not just limited to stores if you own your own home go to the tax assesors office with your DD-214 and you get a tax break on property and school yaxes. If you are military disabled you get more. Also some states give discounts or free licenses to disabled vets. I'm 50% and my total cost for all mt licenses is $25 that's fishing, small game, big game, archery, muzzleloader, and turkey tags. Dern sight better than the C note I paid before I got my disability. |

I'm a vet of 16 years in the army. Have been out of the Army since the year 2000,and know one has ever told me that you should go to your court house to register as a vetran. Does this give you any more having done this. THANK YOU FOR THOSE WHO HAVE SERVED OUR GREAT COUNTRY AND TO THOSE THAT ARE STILL SERVING. |

Some states have separate county Veterans offices and not always in the court house .Ours is in the county administration building .Everybody should register thier dd214 with them just if something happens and it gets destroyed .It makes it easier to get a copy of it . |

I stayed at the Excaliber Hotel and Casino in Vegas, and while taking my family to the buffet, I asked if they gave a Military or Veterans discount - 10% off the whole bill. |

When I was forced medically retired I was issued a US Army ID card ( blue ) that shows my retirement status and after getting a letter from the VA stating my 100% disability rating I pay no county taxes on my home. I was also issued a FREE Lifetime Hunting and Fishing License from the state of Georgia. |
