They've forgotten what it means to actually REPRESENT the PEOPLE anyhow so WHY should WE pay them? That otta just about do it. hm.... seems like I may need to send that to the Pres and my "reps" - I mail the idiots so often that I set up a dist list with their emails.... Woodward: Obama Not Telling Truth on Sequester
Despite President Obama’s insistence that Republicans are to
blame for the coming sequester, The Washington Post’s Bob Woodward
maintains that the commander-in-chief need look no further than his own
White House if he wants to blame someone.
“The president and (Treasury Secretary Jack) Lew had this wrong,” Woodward penned on Friday.
“My extensive reporting for my book 'The Price of Politics' shows that
the automatic spending cuts were initiated by the White House and were
the brainchild of Lew and White House congressional relations chief Rob
Nabors — probably the foremost experts on budget issues in the senior
ranks of the federal government.”
Woodward, who is an associate editor at the Post, said the $85 billion
in automatic spending cuts that are set to begin on Friday are
surrounded by “misunderstanding, misstatements and all the classic
contortions of partisan message management.” The cuts amount to a total
of $1.2 trillion over 10 years.
“Obama personally approved of the plan for Lew and Nabors to propose the
sequester to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid,” asserted Woodward.
“They did so at 2:30 p.m. July 27, 2011, according to interviews with
two senior White House aides who were directly involved.”
Woodward also cited comments attributed to Nabors.
“Nabors has told others that they checked with the president before
going to see Reid,” Woodward explained. “A majority of Republicans did
vote for the Budget Control Act that summer, which included the
sequester. Key Republican staffers said they didn’t even initially know
what a sequester was — because the concept stemmed from the budget wars
of the 1980s, when they were not in government.”
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney countered in a tweet that the
goal was always to replace the cuts with a so-called grand bargain,
reported Politico on Saturday.
"Super Committee's mandate was not to replace sequester w/spending cuts
alone," Carney tweeted. "To suggest otherwise is willfully wrong."

| "The BIG Lie"
The phrase was also used in a report prepared during the war by the United States Office of Strategic Services in describing Hitler's psychological profile:[5][6]
His primary rules were: never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy; never leave room for alternatives; never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong; people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it.[7]

i'm glad you said that lunk . the biggest reason I have no faith in our gov solving anything is that most of the problems we have now are exactly the same ones we had when I was a kid.all of our esteemed leaders know our economy is going to fail thier only goal is to get thier piece of it before it happens |

I hope all of you folks are writing all of your Senators, Congressmen, Governors, VP and Pres at a minimum stating your dissatisfaction with their performance. No replies needed but if the answer to that is "no" then I submit that you're part of the silent majority that lets this problem just continue to go on. Until we unite and start voicing our displeasure with them en mass nothing has a chance of changing. |

frankly I don't much care if the schools shut downat this point I think they are doing more harm than good to the children anyhow.and if we have to do without police, fireman, health care, welfare and any other service the "gov" provides for awhile so be it.whatever it takes to put the deficit at zero and wheen the public from the governments teet.I know this scares the chit out of folks and it should,I expect many will die but we are beyond painless fixes. |

Steve, I get the same old canned responses on a daily basis from my dumb azz Democratic Congressman, who just spouts the party line, my Republican Senators answer with what I want to hear, my Governor actually replies with some facts and figures, my state senator is an idiot, and my state representative is an old high school friend who talks like a Republican but has to run as a Dem. in order to get elected. I only send the imposter in chief the petitions and group letters, since I wouldn't waste my time actually writing the bustard, and besides it probably wouldn't be read since I'd address it to the occupier of the White House!!!!!!!!!!!! I probably send everyone of them an average of three or more letters and petitions on a daily basis. That's one of the good things about facebook!!!!!!!!!!! |

As far as #3, these positions were originally not a paid position. Now a new senator congressman, will be a millionaire after two terms, if they were not when elected. What other position in this nation can you vote on your own raise? Fire all of the dumba$$es. |

I just can't help but wonder when the rest of our stupid, idiotic, countrymen will wake up and recognize what a lying fraud Obama truly is! He's proficient at denying his own fault, and his supporters are quick to play the race card when it's proven that he's a damn liar!!!!!!! People like Ellison are only in office due to the gerrymandering of voting districts approved by the Feds in many instances that allow black candidates to automatically win, and it doesn't make any difference if they are qualified or not, as long as they have that certain skin pigmentation, they are electable!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry but there are few, if ANY in government who don't have their heads so far up their a$$es that they can't/don't want to see reality. They are ALL running this country into the toilet and flushing. The OSlobbers and company folks keep getting elected by lowlifes who want the gov to support them and pay their way. Sadly it seems like there are more of those types than folks who pay their own way, and are proud of it! I'm tellin' ya, this country's a powder keg and the lid's gonna come off at some point. Sooner than later I suspect the way things are going. Does the phrase "Taxation without Representation" ring a bell? |

OK Truth or fiction? I could not find anything on this. I was told that if a company moved oversees and you made $50K or more and lost your job, and you could not find a job for as much $$. The governemnt has a program that will supplemnt the lost wages for two years? Anyone ever heard of this. Of course, if your company moves cross country and you lose yoru job ... Too bad!!!! |

Yes, someone explain to me how 2 1/2 cents out of every dollar spent by the Feds, can actually create the dire financial results claimed by the Obama administration. I don't see any cuts being taken by lawmakers and administrative personnel. How about actually cutting social program spending and aid to foreign governments instead of curtailing the benefits of our veterans. Maybe if Bo, Michelle and the kids had a few PB&J sandwiches, instead of prime rib, and lobster a couple of nights a week, that would save a little bit!!!!!! |

They cut benefits to the
homeless veterans, cut of Vet Tuition aid THAT THEY EARNED!, cut of White house
tours yet continue to waste $$$ on studies to find out why lesbians are obese,
and the below. I am sure there are
plenty more of these that have not been made public. They keep giving big dollars and military
support to Egypt who just recently made a statement to the UN that the proposed
UN blueprint to combat violence against women as a plan that would
destroy family values. I have no love
loss for the UN and their treaties, but Boomer claimed how he was the candidate
for woman and woman rights and the GOP hated women, yet he keeps giving the
Muslim Brotherhood an open checkbook.
Feds fund ecoATM, Robo-squirrel despite warnings about
chronic disease research cuts
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/03/16/funding-for-robo-squirrel-and-ecoatm-are-among-projects-gop-senator-wants-cut/
VIDEO AT LINK
The federal government is ready to pay people $45,900 to attend an annual snowmobile
competition in Michigan for the next two years.
They're also ready to shell out $516,000 for scientists to develop an ecoATM that will give out
cash in exchange for old cell phones and other electronics. And why not drop
another $349,862 for a study that
looks at the effects of meditation and self-reflection for math, science and
engineering majors?
These are just a few of the 164 grants the National
Science Foundation approved two weeks ago. Yet around the same time, the
administration was warning that the sequester would cut into critical research
on chronic diseases.
While some of the less critical grant ideas were scrapped
as the NSF looked for ways to scale back and prioritize, the number of
allegedly frivolous grants still in play is not sitting well with Sen. Tom
Coburn of Oklahoma.
The GOP senator has been on a campaign to call out what
he sees as pockets of wasteful government spending. Since the sequestration
took effect March 1, he's sent 11 letters to various department heads
highlighting places where they can fiscally trim down.
In a letter to NSF director Subra Suresh,
Coburn suggested cutting the grants above along with nine others, including a
$515,468 grant used, in part, to study how a
shrimp running on a treadmill
responds
to alterations in oxygen and carbon dioxide levels.
"These may be interesting questions to ponder or
explore, but just because each is currently being supported by NSF should not
mean guaranteed future funding if new applications with greater merit or
potential are submitted," Coburn wrote in his March 12 letter. "I
appreciate your agency's commitment to continuing grants, but ensuring the most
promising new research can be supported next year may require ending or
reducing spending on lower priority grants now being funded. Robo-squirrel may
have survived its encounters with the rattlesnake but it may have met its match
in sequestration if we hope to provide support for more promising scientific
projects."
"Robo-squirrel" has long been criticized
by Coburn
as a big government boondoggle. Researchers at San Diego State University used
funds from a
$325,000
grant
provided by the government-bankrolled NSF to invent a robotic squirrel used for
researchers. Coburn has used robo-squirrel as an example multiple times as a
government program that needs to be cut.
NSF spokeswoman Dana Topousis told FoxNews.com Friday
that they receive 40,000 to 50,000 proposals a year. Of those, 10,000 to 11,000
get funded. Topousis says decisions are based on two criteria – “intellectual
merit” and the “broader impacts”, which addresses the benefits of the proposed
study to society.
She also says Coburn shouldn’t get caught up with the
quirky names of the projects but try to see beyond it. One of the most
successful projects the NSF has had a hand in was one in 1996 called “BackRub,”
a search engine research project by
Stanford University students Larry Page and
Sergey Brin.
“BackRub sounds ridiculous but if we didn’t take a chance
on it things would be a lot different today,” she said.
In 1997, BackRub changed its name to Google.
Still, others argue that a few success stories don't make
it ok for the NSF to spend taxpayer money. Shortly before the sequester took
effect, the administration warned that up to 12,000 scientists and students
could be impacted by the cuts due to reduced NSF research grants. The
administration also warned about cutbacks at the National Institutes of Health,
which "would delay progress on the prevention of debilitating chronic
conditions ... and delay development of more effective treatments for common
and rare diseases affecting millions of Americans."
But Coburn, among those who say the administration is
taking unnecessary measures to comply with the sequester, says there are plenty
of other ways to save.
Another program Coburn calls out is
"Snooki" --
a robot bird that impersonates
a female
sage grouse to examine the importance of courtship tactics of males.
"Every dollar spent on projects such as these could
have instead supported research to design a next-generation robotic limb to
treat injured war heroes or a life-saving hurricane detection system,"
Coburn writes in his letter.
Coburn said the number of new research grants could be
reduced by as many as 1,000.
Through audits and investigations, the NSF Inspector
General identified more than $309 million in questionable and poorly spent
funds in just the second half of fiscal year 2012.

50 Examples of Government Waste
http://www.heritage.org/research/re...ment-waste
Soaring government spending and trillion-dollar budget deficits have brought fiscal responsibility -- and reducing government waste -- back onto the national agenda. President Obama recently identified 0.004 of 1 percent of the federal budget as wasteful and proposed eliminating this $140 million from his $3.6 trillion fiscal year 2010 budget request. Aiming higher, the President recently proposed partially offsetting a costly new government health entitlement by reducing $622 billion in Medicare and Medicaid "waste and inefficiencies" over the next decade. Taxpayers may wonder why reducing such waste is now merely a bargaining chip for new spending rather than an end in itself.
It is possible to reduce spending and balance the budget. In the 1980s and 1990s, Washington consistently spent $21,000 per household (adjusted for inflation). Simply returning to that level would balance the budget by 2012 without any tax hikes. Alternatively, merely returning to the 2008 (pre-recession) spending level of $25,000 per household (adjusted for inflation) would likely balance the budget by 2019 without any tax hikes.
Not Easy, but Necessary
Reducing wasteful spending is not easy. Even the most useless programs are passionately supported by the armies of recipients, administrators, and lobbyists that benefit from their existence. Identifying inefficiencies and abuses is much easier than devising a system to fix them. Many lawmakers focus more on bringing home earmarks than on performing the less exciting task of government oversight. Exasperated taxpayers see the cost of government rise with no end in sight.
Of course, eliminating waste cannot balance the budget. Lawmakers must also rein in spending by reforming Social Security and Medicare and by eliminating government activities that are no longer affordable. Yet government waste is the low-hanging fruit that lawmakers must clean up in order to build credibility with the public for larger reforms.
Congress has allowed government employees to spend tax dollars on iPods, jewelry, gambling, exotic dance clubs, and $13,500 steak dinners. If lawmakers cannot even reduce this kind of waste, fraud, and abuse, taxpayers will be less likely to trust them to reform Social Security and Medicare.
Six Categories of Waste
The six categories of wasteful and unnecessary spending are:
- Programs that should be devolved to state and local governments;
- Programs that could be better performed by the private sector;
- Mistargeted programs whose recipients should not be entitled to government benefits;
- Outdated and unnecessary programs;
- Duplicative programs; and
- Inefficiency, mismanagement, and fraud.
The first four categories are generally subjective, and reasonable people can disagree on whether a given federal program falls under their purview. Yet the final two categories -- duplication and inefficiency, mismanagement, and fraud -- are comparatively easy to identify and oppose. Thus, they are heavily represented in the examples of government waste below:
- The federal government made at least $72 billion in improper payments in 2008.http://www.heritage.org/research/re...ment-waste#_edn1" name="_ednref1">[1]
- Washington spends $92 billion on corporate welfare (excluding TARP) versus $71 billion on homeland security.http://www.heritage.org/research/re...ment-waste#_edn2" name="_ednref2">[2]
- Washington spends $25 billion annually maintaining unused or vacant federal properties.http://www.heritage.org/research/re...ment-waste#_edn3" name="_ednref3">[3]
- Government auditors spent the past five years examining all federal programs and found that 22 percent of them -- costing taxpayers a total of $123 billion annually -- fail to show any positive impact on the populations they serve.http://www.heritage.org/research/re...ment-waste#_edn4" name="_ednref4">[4]
- The Congressional Budget Office published a "Budget Options" series identifying more than $100 billion in potential spending cuts.http://www.heritage.org/research/re...ment-waste#_edn5" name="_ednref5">[5]
- Examples from multiple Government Accountability Office (GAO) reports of wasteful duplication include 342 economic development programs; 130 programs serving the disabled; 130 programs serving at-risk youth; 90 early childhood development programs; 75 programs funding international education, cultural, and training exchange activities; and 72 safe water programs.http://www.heritage.org/research/re...ment-waste#_edn6" name="_ednref6">[6]

Pick the Low-Hanging Fruit
Because many of these examples of waste overlap, it is not possible to determine their exact total cost. Yet it is evident that Washington loses hundreds of billions of dollars annually on spending that most Americans would certainly consider wasteful. Lawmakers seeking to rein in spending and budget deficits should begin by eliminating this least justifiable spending while also addressing long-term entitlement costs.
