Doesn't matter anymore... the government has to continue this, in order to keep Americans in line through entitlements.

The phrase was also used in a report prepared during the war by the United States Office of Strategic Services in describing Hitler's psychological profile:[5][6]
His primary rules were: never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy; never leave room for alternatives; never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong; people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it.[7]

Really? I think I understand this perfectly...
The U.S. has a colossal debt- which, btw really started with Reagan...(care to guess who the last President was to start paying down the debt? I'll give you a hint- his wife will likely be your next President). This debt can be owed to itself by borrowing against such things as Social Security, or it can be owed to public entities- like other countries. Obama has decided it's better to owe it to yourselves than to owe it to China.
Please- enlighten me as to how it really works, sw. |

He is clueless like you... he, as do you, thinks only the government has the answer!
The government is the reason this will continue!

The problem is there are two sides here. Both bearing as much responsibility for the problems we have now as the other. Weather it be money spent on military or social programs. It must come from somewhere. And neither side wants to give up anything, expecting the other to give in. And we do have two extremes, the very rich and the very poor and the rest of us fall in between. The very rich say they create jobs, from those jobs come wages, wages that are taxed, thereby increasing revenue for our government. Then you have the very poor, why are they so poor? They say it is because the very rich have unfair advantages, are greedy, take advantage of the circumstances and pay unfair wages, do not pay their fair share. The thing of it is both sides are right and somewhere in the middle is the truth. And until we can get past the name calling on all sides we will never fix a dam thing. Are there lazy, good for nothing people leeching off the rest of us? Yes there are, but until we stop focusing on that small but growing percentage, and look at the whole picture we will never see there is a small percentage of ultra rich the other side is focused on just as much. And they point to them as the source of all our problems. And the corruption of both sides comes from those small groups. Immigration both sides debate. Why do the Republicans not want to talk about it or really do anything about it? Because it benefits them, in that it is a source of cheap labor, they do not have to pay their part of SSI or Medicare out of their wages. They are not burdened with all the things involved in a legal worker. They are free to exploit the illegal workers. And that is why they will not punish those who hire them in the first place. The Democrats see it as an issue to exploit they know the legal Hispanics, see the greed and exploitation. It is not the illegal workers votes they are after, it is the votes of the legal Hispanics who see the corruption and want changes and fairness. That is not to say the Democrats are not corrupt, but side is hidden to the Hispanic population, for now. That is how the Democrats got the Hispanic vote. And they count on the prejudice; hate many show the illegals and Hispanic’s as a whole to bolster that. The big corporations are moving their manufacturing jobs to China. That is hurting our economy any way you look at it. Now does anyone believe they are paying those workers a fair wage? In safe working environments? Have the Unions of this Country over reaching causing some of the move? Greed and exploitation on all sides has caused the problems we have

ck- I don't disagree with your points- but the issue here is why the Feds are, in essence, buying up so much of their own debt. That said, from my perspective, there is a solution- or at least a partial one. I would be very leery to remove ANY social programs, but certainly that has to be looked at. The biggest bang (as it were) for the buck would be to cut military spending- and this is coming from a very proud former member of Canada's Navy. The U.S. is so far above everyone else, not only in military spending, but military technology, that they are in truth in a league of their own. China may, at some point in the very near future, be able to challenge the Russians, but it will be decades before anyone (and it will be the Chinese) can actually compare to the might of the Americans. You can afford to cut it back some. Look at it this way- I believe your current debt sits at roughly $16 trillion. Iraq and Afghanistan, by the latest estimates from Brown University, cost $3.5-4 trillion. That's a BIG chunk of that debt, and a cost that will more or less start to dry up with the troop withdrawals. The problem there is, of course, as soon as anyone mentions downsizing the military, he is ostracized as unpatriotic, and as someone that wants to weaken the U.S. In point of fact (of course), without the massive interest payments on your debt, you could afford to upscale the military... Funny, isn't it? |

yh, The US has become a global Police force of sorts, and in places where those there really do not want us to be there. Yes we should pull back and leave them to their own and on their own. I am not an isolationist, but at the same time I believe we should mind our own buisness in many areas. As far as China catching up, it may not be that long, if we keep outsourceing all our technology to them. |
