Copied from the "6th Annuall Idaho Elk Hunt & GT" thread:

"Okay, everyone, here's the latest update. I just finished talking with Ray a few minutes ago. He is unable to get on the NAHC website for some reason. He doesn't know if he's been banned or what, but that's a different issue for him to resolve.

2010 GT - not gonna happen.

A 2011 GT is planned and we'll deal with that at the appropriate time."

I look forward to seeing everyone at the 8th Annual Idaho Elk Hunt & GT in 2011.

Well, another Elk season is over for me. We hunted hard in China Meadow of NE Utah. Hunters in the area did get some Elk and Deer. I saw some hanging and heard of a few others. One fellow was on foot seven miles out, boned out the elk and was making one trip a day to bring out the spoils. Made a trip with a two wheeled cart, I don't know how that turned out bout what a hike!
We hunted for a week and didn't see an Elk that wasn't hanging in some others' camp. I meet one old fellow in the woods who said he'd hunted that area for thirteen years and always got elk. This was first year that he hadn't seen elk. He'd seen deer every day but no Elk. We hiked every day, no horses or four wheelers.
We saw black tail, white tail and mule deer, even saw moose on two occasions. Lots of pretty scenery, but no elk. Saw pronghorns along the highways. Put almost four thousand miles on my truck out and back.
Snowed the first two days and blew most the time. Winds swirled round in the woods and one minute it was in my face, next time at my back. Not making excuses just don't know what was wrong. Maybe the wind, maybe me. Had a great time and made great memories. The trip was long, I'm tired and still have to unpack and put away the camping gear. We tent camped in a Cabela's Alaknak tent with a barrel stove. The stove kept us warm and toasty, although we had to feed it about every three hours during the nights. The morning temps were in the low twenties and we were good inside the tent. The tent was better than I would have imagined and recommend it to anyone. We used a Camp Chief grill and griddle. Wow, was that slick and convenient. Easy cooking two or three items at a time without different pots and pans for each. That's the way to do it.
I hope everyone has a safe and happy hunt. Some will connect and some will just have to enjoy the experience like we did. It was a great time with great friends.
Thanks to the service men and women that make it all possible. God bless America!!!

I believe Ray is giving up on about everything. I have not heard from him in a long time. I called him twice yesterday, once at his house and found that he was up at capt's called him there and chatted with Mr. Butler, Ray was not available. Left a message and still have not heard from him. Bullrun

I want to get back up that way, too.  Haven't been up to see Ray and Vickie in awhile now.  Turkeys near Ray's place are MUCH bigger than I've shot down here.

I'm hoping that by summer 2011 my financial situation will be looking better.  Have a daughter starting college in Jan 2011 so next year is going to be VERY interesting, especially with me working the night shift.

Hope to see everyone who can make it to the 2012 GT.

Don't know what's happening for 2011.  Have not heard from Ray in several months.

I have an orthopedic consult at the VAMC next week.  I have a feeling how that will turn out.  I plan on calling Ray again this weekend to see how he's doing.  I'm beginning to think he doesn't want to talk to me anymore.  Not sure if I've insulted him in some way, but we generally talk more often than we have in the recent past.

Ok folks.  I spoke with Ray and here's the latest.

His computer caught a virus awhile back; that's why no responses.  Russel and his lady-friend (a computer guru) is visiting in two weeks.  She has "volunteered" to take a look at it and see if she can fix it.

Ray has been BUSY with the Marine Corps League stuff and his other ventures with Gary.

Ray is not able to hold a GT for 2011, so look for it again in 2012.  Ray told me his friend Dean (forest service guy) says there are wolves all over the Dworshak area, so we'll have to see how this will affect future GT events.

So, to summarize, Ray's computer has been unavailable and the last time he tried to logon to the NAHC site, he wasn't able to get on.  He doesn't know why, but that will have to be dealt with a later time.  NO GT FOR 2011 DUE TO CURRENT CIRCUMSTANCES.  Look for more information regarding the 2012 GT event later this year.

There you have it.  Ray is still around, just hasn't been able to get online.  Hopefully, that will change in two weeks after Russel and his lady-friend visit.

Gotta get ready for the Super Bowl party.  Guests have arrived and food is being eaten.  I'm missing out because I'm typing this message, so I'm outta here.  GO PACKERS!

having the wolves move back into that area is a good and bad thing. i love to see them thriving but also hate to see what they can do to the elk herd.

Rutcrazed... is that you travis?
Brian is "Rutcrazed,... Don't know what happened to him,... I personally have not heard from him in a coons age.

On another note however,.. I'm considering attending the 2012 hunt if the GT will be happening. Considering the circumstances that have taken place in my not so distant past I was planning to head out to Wyoming this October to hunt with H2O Elkaholic (Dean) BUT,.. my current situation of being unemployed has made it impossible to do for this fall.

I do however plan on going in 2013 with him as he hosts hunts in his area of hunting with people every other year allowing him to try for a pretty coveted tag draw the years he doesn't. (2012)

So depending on the word from the people who live out Idaho way regarding the problem with the "Wolves" and if they will actually be holding the GT will dictate if I will try to make the plans to hunt Idaho once again.

I too had talked with Ray not too long ago had he did have a heck of a issue with his computer,.. he told me he was probably going to have to purchase a new one. I wish everyone "good luck" with their 2011 hunts and hope you all will post up the herd conditions you experience and whatever pics and stories you have to tell.

Just checking in.  Seems like this thread is getting cold.

Ray and Vicki just had an anniversary on 4/3 so maybe he'll be getting online again soon.  The only reason I know Ray and Vicki had an anniversary is because theirs is the same as mine and my wife's anniversary.

Shameless plug, I know, but that's too much of a coincidence and probably why Ray and Vicki get along so well with Susi and I.

Take care.  Hope to see you at the 2012 GT.  Where that will be, I don't know, but it should be fun no matter where we have it.

TTT.

Haven't talked with Ray in awhile. Anyone heard from him? I think the MCL is keeping him busy.

I found a big rip in the travel trailer roof that was incorrectly repaired before it came into my possession. That's gonna be about $500 unless I can figure out how to properly fix it myself. Just gotta find the time and money.

VA is proposing, get this, REDUCING my disability rating. WTF? Now I gotta go through the appeal process, AGAIN, to see what's going on. It never ends, does it?

Hey Terry, I just stopped by the thread to see what has been going on. I hope Ray gets his computer problem fixed. I miss him on here. I haven't been on here in along time. I am glad you are going to see Dean someday soon. The last year and a half has been busy here at the ole factory. I had over 900 hours of overtime last year, and will probably beat that number this year. Good luck on this years hunt.

Ray, glad to see you back online again. Thank you for the call last night. Wish we could've talked longer, but work gets in the way too often, don't it? Man, I hate working the late-shift, but at least I'm still working.

Call me when you can. You got names and addreses of where we can send a card? PM me if you don't want to post that info.

My wife and I spent a few days with Ray and Vicki. Ray was talking with a buddy of his. He told Ray to forget everything he learned about hunting elk at Grandad because it was time to relearn the process.

I'll let Ray explain in more detail, if he wants, but it doesn't sound good. We may have to come up with new / different strategies to hunt that area.

Hunting with the wolves does make it harder to find the Elk. The Bulls if they do at all only bugle once. The bulls have all gone down into the thick and nasty and hang there all the time. they do not or did not answer to any of my cow or bull calls. I shot a 90 pound female wolf opening morning of elk seaon just above where Mike got his spike in 05. I did see elk every day but it was only one or two cows hanging close tot he brush. In seven days i probably saw 20 head total, most under 200 yards. I did however connect with a six point on the hairpin turn just above the boat launch, him, six cows and a spike stood there long enough for me to get a shot off. Made the packing job real easy.

Ray...where are you?

Well, VA did it! They reduced my 30% rating down to 0% so the appeals war begins. Unfortunately, they're so far behind on appeals that they won't even begin the review process until some time next year. The waiting game begins.

No, I didn't. The economy has not been good to me. To top it off, I was laid off on 11/24/2012 (that's Thanksgiving Friday) without any warning. Unbelievable, 17 years with the State of Idaho shot to h*ll.

On the plus side, I'm eligible for VA Vocational Rehabilitation and pursuing that benefit. I have a LOT of things to accomplish, but if everything goes well and according to plan, I have a good - very good chance of attending Boise State University beginning this summer.

I am attempting to get into the Radiology field. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
